T-Mobile to launch 3G in 27 markets by the end of 2008

In what is most likely preparation for its rapidly growing selection of UMTS and HSDPA-enabled phones, T-Mobile today announced its intention to launch 3G services in 27 US markets by the end of 2008. According to the press release, the planned expansion is expected to deliver 3G services to more than two-thirds of T-Mobile's current data customers. Currently, T-Mobile 3G can be found in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, New York (including northern New Jersey and Long Island), Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio and San Diego. By mid-October, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle should come online, followed by Birmingham, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis and Tampa by the end of 2008, bringing the total 3G market count to 27. On an interesting note, the territory acquired by T-Mobile's acquisition of SunCom Wireless remains mysteriously absent from the 3G news.

“With the faster data speeds delivered by our 3G network, T-Mobile looks forward to offering mobile products and services that place the full power of the Web in our customers’ hands,” said Cole Brodman, chief development officer, T-Mobile USA.

I know many people would disagree, but I actually think it's smart that they're slowly rolling out the network (and I'm a T-mobile customer anxiously awaiting 3G goodness). Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like this is a more reliable way to do it.

I thoroughly disagree with your statement. T-mobile's focus should be on their network versus 3G roll out. What good is 3G if you don't have any reception?

I don't understand your comment.

First of all, I have absolutely no reception issues (and have had T-mobile for several years now).

Second, rolling out a 3G network doesn't automatically mean that they're ignoring other aspects of their business.

My comment was directed simply at the METHOD of their 3G rollout.

I have great coverage too and I think its a smart way to shut people up about tmobile slacking, they are just waiting for the others to come out so they can be better "SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST" LMAO!!!

Wow, such strong feelings against T-Mobile. You being mad isn't going to change anything so calm down. If you don't like their service or phones, sorry to hear that, if you do then great. As you can imagine I have T-Mobile and it works great for me. At work, school, clubs, bars, wherever. Ive got service when i visit family in Europe and in Africa. Can you go to Europe and use Verizon?

I have t-mobile for several years and you are correct the services works in most countries. I have use T-Mobile in some countries that most people will not visit. You are so correct, because my friends was using Sprint and Verzion there was no service available for them. With this been said I too wish that they would make the 3G coverage to the whole service area.
