Storm pricing and release date are set

With the holiday season almost upon us, Verizon today disclosed that the highly anticipated Blackberry Storm will be available on Nov 21st and will have a price of $199 with a 2-year contract (after $50 rebate). Not only were E-Mails sent to everyone who registered on the Storm Pre-Launch site, but the site was also updated with interactive demos showcasing different features of the device. With all the attention that the Storm is getting, Verizon is expecting it to be a major seller this season, and at $199, it would be the same price as the LG Dare which isn't even a smartphone.

The iphone is popular among teens who want to blast their music while they text their friends in the middle of math class.
The Blackberry Storm however is an innovative touch screen device that people in the business field can find useful and professional.

1. The iPhone is NOT a smartphone. 2. why does everyone hate it? WOW. How mature of you to completely just flat out say you hate EVERYTHING about the phone. That is so stupid. Ths iPhone's touch screen is amazing, it is a high quality product. And for people who have iPods, majority of the people I know, it is convenient to have your iPod be in your phone, so you can just carry around on device. That is not to say the iPhone is perfect, but it is immature to say everything about it sucks. IT is a good phone.

As for the Storm, yes it is going to be amazing. but here is the question:
Why does one phone have to be better than the other?

I mean, sure they are competition, but seriously, chill out.

I also agree that it's not a smartphone, but the iPhone was recently named the number 1 "smartphone" in terms of customer satisfaction with business users... go figure.

I'm with you though, why does it matter so much? they're cell phones.. I just flat out love technology. Why hate on a cell phone?

Actually RIM controls approx. 10%of the Smart phone market where as Apple is sitting around 1%. Good try though. I have an iPod touch and a VZW Blackberry curve, the best of both worlds: Apple product and the RIM/ Verizon network.

Not trying to insult you or anything, but that survey was bull, it went for existing business customers who already have smartphones, so they may not even use it as a smartphone. On top of that most companies will only use BB due to encryptions in they're server, so better security and better email support. Why do you think Government employees can only get BB?

omg~~i can believe people are still hoping this to be the iphone killer~~have u guys ever seen the video demo of this things b4, and it was the official video from RIM its self~~the interface lag like hell~~i not saying that this will be a bad phone, and the actual retail ver MAY not lag like that, but still, dont hope for too much until u touch it urself, u people are not really hoping a good phone, u are just trying to get some reason to blahs the iphone, which is a stupid thing to do.

I guess you missed the recent JD Power survey where they compared products for business users and Apple's iphone beat out RIM.

As far as innovation goes, as much as I hate Apple and the iphone, that product has pushed the industry forward more than any other....ever.

So even though I will never carry one, I am thankful that it came out because the selection of phones has become so much better since it's inception.

Well first of all, for all the AT&T/iPhone groupies...let's not forget that the almighty Iphone was offered to VZW first but VZW rejected the device b/c they didn't want to become Apple's b**ch. Of course the desperate ATT/Cingular...probably soon to be called Apple Wireless...broke the bank to get exclusivity of this device. None of you iPhone supporters talk about that reality tho.

The iPhone is the only phone in AT&T's lineup that is even relevent...the Tilt sucked, the Blackjack is worthless and the LG Shine (?)...please AT&T..try again. Second, comparing the iPhone to a Blackberry is like comparing a Honda Accord to a BMW. They're two diff. class of devices. Let's be truthful for a minute...the iPhone pretty much kills every touchscreen phone in the aspect of web browsing and crystal clear resolution on the screen. But let's also be truthful about LG being the first brand to initiate a non-PDA touchscreen phone with the LG Prada. The Storm isn't meant to be a "iPhone Killer" tho...it's almost like Blackberry doesn't have to b/c the phone is so much more capable than the iPhone. But AT&T is getting the Touch Diamond Pro that may be the revival to their phone line-up. So that will make 2 devices.

But to be honest with you...Apple Inc. does make a nice product. With the iPod Touch who needs an iPhone?

Your not to knowlegable are you. Hold on ill use easy terms for you... your dumb. its the number 1 mp3 player that plays YouTube, and happends to have a phone attached to it, granted the device is cool, but BlackBerry OPTOMIZES the buisness world, and the buisness world makes up 60-70% of all cell phone carriers. 90% of that 60-70% have a BlackBerry NOT an iPhone. The Storm will take its seat. It Will.

the iphone is a business phone dipshit, more business consumers have iphones than teens.
if a teen wants a loud touch phone, the get one for half an iphoness price, plus no data package. which an iphone requires.

cuz you pretty much have it all wrong, it is a business related phone. AND a multimedia phone.
thats why is supports microsoft exchange. second, this is APLLE we are talking about
OFCOURSE they are going to make another generation of iphones, adn it will make up for the differences between the iphone 3g, and the storm.

No need to wait, I have used blackberry equipment for the last 5 years and there are never any bugs with their devices. RIM takes the time to get the product right the first time. This is the main reason why we have waited an additional 3-4 months since the "so-called" original release date. So in my opinion get it now while you can and pick up the hottest and best phone out there.

First of all, Blackberry product is great but there are always bugs with any device! take a look at the Blackberry pearl. Not only did the trackball break or just not work after a while, but the phone also froze A LOT!!! Every phone has a bug to it...so if i were you, i would wait to het this phone. Yes it is cool and the touchscreen is awesome, but remember that you also have to get an additional data package of $30 a month, that is if you don't already have a smart phone.

Verizon was thinking about releasing the phone back in june, but they decided against cause they did want work out all the bugs before it went on sale. This thing has been used and abused and fixed time and time again so all the bugs have been worked out. You'll be good to go getting a new one.

that is not to say there won't be ANY bugs. What if all the phones have complete failure, than darn, you should've waited for all the problems to be fixed. It is smart to wait, because with such a high tech, mass produced product, there is always that chance of problems.

Umm.. Ya, an if you wait. Once all the "BUGS" are "FIXED" there will be a new phone for you to go crazy over and wonder if you should get that. BUT WAIT!! All the "BUGS" are "FIXED" in the old out dated one.. Lol, then you will just end up going with the new one anyways.. Geez, smatie.. No, seriously though.. EVEN PHONES THAT HAVE BEEN OUT AND "FIXED" STILL HAVE ISSUES! Get over it an buy the dang storm.. You know you want it.. An if you don't get it; all the other kids on the block with their new cool phone's with or without problems. AN YOU WON'T!! You think Verizon would let their brand new MONSTER MONEY MAKING PHONE go to crap. NO? Would any company.. IPHONE!! G3!!?? NO! They get their fixes out ASAP! That's it.. Ya, tard..

and they are not requiring that you have that feature on your plan...only that you are on a nationwide plan so you can use the full html browser

Actually, it is nice because, finally, all PDA's will require a data package, so no more customers who want a phone for the calendar and/or contact management without e-mail and web. If the same goes for devices like the Dare or the Voyager with Vcast requirement or even better, a premuim plan requirement, that just means more data sales that are less likely to charge back right? It will make your life as a Rep a lot easier.

Just sayin... you really dont know who you are talking to here.

i have a good idea how about a cell phone company put out a smartphone and have the service free. would that make everyone happy???? how about giving away free phones or how about car dealerships selling you the car and giving you the gas free for a lifetime .... that would be greaaaat!!!!!! lets all be realistic here you buy a pda, smartphone , pocket pc whatever you want to call em.. you have to need this device for email and internet access therefore you would pay the extra money for the service or you just dont need the service hence dont need the device. stop complianing about the pricing of the services its getting boring and sounds like you guys are all under the age of 13 with no job and no money. remember there is a reason high speed internet is not the same price as dial up. you get what you pay for. stop acting like a bunch of divorced wives talking about thier xhusbands new girlfriend.

1st of all, for those talking about Verizon, need to get a life, if you're so opinionated, then go work for a company so you can write reviews, not one company will ever be perfect. Look at Sprint, great plans, but guess what, THEY JUST WENT THROUGH A LAWSUIT ABOUT ETF! Some company can have good prices on phone, but crappy coverage, some vise-versa, and some just plain ol' crappy.

2nd, those complaining about Storm not having WiFi, need to get a better paying job so you can afford a data plan rather than just smooching off other people's unsecured network, or having to pay for hotspots, FREE WIFI's AREN'T EVERYWHERE. Besides, I know Verizon's mandating everyone with smartphone to get a data plan, but guess what, they're also remodeling their data plan to bundle with unlimited messaging, so shut your pie hole. Granted, although I'm a Verizon customer, yet there are certain features/benefits I'm not happy with, but then again, that's everyone who doesn't get what they WANT. BTW, if you don't travel internationally, Verizon do have the best 3G network and most coverage in the U.S. Those disagrees and are iPhone lovers...what was the most recent headline? iPhone 3G coverage isn't what it makes to be? Might work good for you because maybe you don't travel around, if that's the case, then good for you.

3rd, those complaining about not having QWERTY keyboard, guess what? That's call evolution, eventually all cell phones won't have actual keyboard to type on, then what? you're stuck with house phone...or are you willing to keep your phone from the 1800's, or the one like Zack Morris had in Save By The Bell?

People complain and complain, if you don't like it, don't buy it. What RIM's doing is call taking a chance, and a very good chance at that, and that's exactly what every company's doing. You are right, won't be like another iPhone, but guess what, nothing can be duplicated, but only imitated.

You bet I will be at the store on the 21st and get myself a new RIM Storm, especially just in time for my upgrade. If there's a bug, so beat it, but from what I can recall, RIM rarely had any software issues.

well DUDE! fyi every carrier was involved with a lawsuit over ETF in cali. Sprint was just another company to prorate etfs..... T-mobile still doenst and anytime you ask them a question they require a 2 yr contract but we dont hear people hating on T-mo they are the worst. Sprint like VZW only makes you renew if you get discounted equipment. Another thing if you want to take your hard earned money in the time of an economic crisis and give it to a company that comparitively has Identical service to sprint( barring roaming agreements) Identical.. I have worked for both companies and I cannot stress IDENTICAL service enough than so be it. At least Sprint recognizes that it doesnt need to charge absorbant fees to provide the same quality of service... Go ahead waste your money with Big red they are only using to profit off of you the consumer. If anybody really understood the economics of wireless then you would all shut your holes....... 99.99 unlim everthing !!! or 165 for the same service = 65*24 = 1560 wasted dollars over the course of two years per line..... Go ahead Waste your money for cripled devices on a network that is really no better than anybody else. There is no perfect carrier every single one has its issues but then again I post on Phonearean therefore I am all and knowing not the fact that I have spent years in the wireless industry and have seen ups and downs with all carriers. ........

Good Day

That is also why VZW is the most profitable Wireless company. Its smart business. Sure Verizon could drop the price of their plans, but people dont have a problem paying an extra $40 for Verizon's unl. Premium plan, so why change it and lose money?

Hey homie #83 I have to disagree I have worked for all major carriers and a few not so major. In regards to Sprint and Verizon having IDENTICAL coverage as you so eliquently wrote, is wrong. If you have a Blackberry 8830 from Sprint and one from Verizon you will indeed notice that the Verizon one works better and I'm not just saying this because I work for Verizon some of my best friends work for Sprint and we compare coverage, and you can tell that Verizon's internet is much faster and you just don't drop calls with Verizon. So yes on a coverage map Sprint and Verizon appear to have the same coverage but when you get down to brass tacts, Verizon is simply put better, trust me it took me a while to believe it but its true, get a Sprint and Verizon phone, same model and use them I mean really use them make calls all over the place and always connect to the internet and you will see a difference. I'm not trying to make anybody look bad or belittle anyone. I am just letting people know from my personal experience. . .

I must confess confusion as to just how much the actual SERVICE for the Storm will cost. There seem to have been so many recent plan/pricing changes of late.

I don't use my phone a great deal for calls, but E-MAIL ACCESS, WEB BROWSING, and NAVIGATION are real important to me. Anyone? What will a Storm plan cost me???

Thanks!

the storm isnt just for business. it plays music and video like the iPhone, has a 3.2 mp camera that actually records video unlike the iphone and g1, it also has a full HTML web browser and full HTML push email. social tools like facebook and flickr support built in, Blackberry Messenger and other IM services.

this phone really can be for just about everyone.

It is for everyone! RIM designed this phone tho break the mold of the stigma that Blackberry's are just for corporate users. After 45 mintues of playing with Build Number 86 last night, I saw that they have achieved this. And yes...I did say build number 86. The Touchscreen on the STORM is crazy on point. Their new SureType technology is just sick wit it.

This phone has everything the typical BLACKBERRY users would want and everything else that the average joe needs.

My ONLY complaint. The web browser could have been a bit more interactive.

Now I gurantee you that there will be NO glitches on the day of release. We have already tested our systems with mock sales and performance tests for all reps.

This is why Big Red is the shizzzzle and will kill the iPhone-izzzlle. Good day
