Sprint set to launch new pricing strategy

According to our sources, Sprint is set to overhaul their pricing strategy on June 15th. There will be an overall simplification of the plans offered, and for the first time there will not be separate plans for CDMA and iDEN users. The Power Pack and Free Incoming plans are going away. Users can mix and match technology on share plans for the first time as well, so any combination of iDEN, CDMA, Hybrid and/or QChat users can be under the same plan. They resemble Verizon's strategy of Basic, Select and Premium plan offerings, though there are some quirks.

Single line users will remain relatively unchanged. Talk plans will offer 450 or 900 minutes for $39.99 and $59.99 respectively. Talk/Message/Connect plans run $49.99, $69.99 and $89.99 for 450, 900 and unlimited minutes, along with unlimited messaging and Direct Connect. Finally, the Everything plans are $69.99 for 450 minutes, $89.99 for 900 or $99.99 for unlimited talk. These of course include unlimited everything else as well, such as web, messaging, navigation, TV and Direct Connect. Smartphones must be activated on a Talk plan with a Vision Pro pack, or on an Everything plan. The Pro pack runs $30, so the Everything plans make more sense.

The share plans receive the biggest change and start at $69.99 for two lines with 700 minutes. This plan is known as the Talk Share plan, and lines 3-5 can be added for $9.99 per line. The Talk/Message Share plans run $99.99 and $149.99 for 1500 and 3000 minutes and unlimited messaging, additional lines are also $9.99. Finally, the Talk/Message/Data Share plans run $129.99 or $169.99 for 1500 and 3000 minutes, unlimited messaging and data. Besides browsing, these plans include Sprint Navigation, Sprint TV and Sprint Radio. Additional lines can be added for $19.99 apiece. Direct Connect is available on all share plans for an additional $10, we weren't sure if that was per line or per account though we think it is per account. The $5 incremental discount for additional Simply Everything plans are still available as well for users need an unlimited option.


As the fine print has indicated, Instinct owners will be required to activate on either an Everything or Talk/Message/Data Share plan. We can confirm that SERO users need to to change plans in order to use the Instinct. The Instinct is going head-to-head with the iPhone in more ways than one; $70 is the starting price for iPhone 3G users as well, but that does not include the unlimited messaging, turn-by-turn GPS or TV and Radio service that the Everything plans offer.

yeah its over if this phone would have came out in December or Jaunary they would have made some money but launching it now, Sprint is on sucuide watch don't they get that no other major company is comming out with a Permier phone around iphone launch time, I guess they didn't learn the first time

Other than finally making the Iphone fast enough to compete with the internet speeds of everyother major carrier high speed service is there any advantage to the new Iphone? Im not bashing it, I love playing with the touch screen on it but has anything else improved? If not then the Iphone wave wont be nearly as big as the original launch because the majority will be people simply wanting the faster one. Not to mention there are alot of hard core sprint fans who are pumped to have anything even remotely close to an Iphone.

Everyone is so excited about the new IPHONE, yea it has GPS, and a slimmer design, but under all that it is the same phone...Yes they added 3G also but what good does that do you when they do not have 3G service everywhere yet...Now sprint on the other hand has their REV A data speeds pretty close to being all over the US...It will take awhile and a lot of money for AT&T to catch up to sprints service in that area...

What's hilarious is i work for a third party dealer, and this is the first i'm hearing about this.. My sprint rep neglected to forward anything to us about these plan changes..

When does this change come? Oh right.. in 5 days..

glad you are using all you're resourses... these plans were announced and have been on the INC for about 2 weeks... Inform yourself retard... might sell some more phones.....

Haven't you heard about ATT's new iphone plan requirement?... Their data doesn't even include GPS, messaging or TV and they raised their monthly fee that is why the new iphone is discounted, however, in the long run you will actually pay more for the new iphone when you factor in the increase data cost. The new iphone is basically the same as the 1st iphone with limited 3G, as someone mentioned 3G will not be available for most iphone owners. 'You still can't record video.'

You can't fool most of the people a second time, I don't think the new iphone will as successful as the 1st one.

Hmmm.... I have a SERO plan... I was excited about getting an Instinct.... but.... Hmmm... What is the point of SERO or the Instinct if I have to pay as much as Verizon or AT&T. . . Is Sprint trying to save the company by just milking out the Instinct?

Is it me, but does it seem that all the other carriers are coming out with new phones on a regular basis, except for Sprint? I always seem to see a new phone coming out for Verizon, or AT&T, or others carriers. And, maybe its just me, but when they do come out with a new phone it always seems so subpar compared to the other phones that the other carriers are introducing. What's up with Sprint? You need to get on the ball and keep up with the times or get left behind.

Sprint doesn't really market their phones, but they do release them. The BlackBerry curve came out about a month or so ago, but unless you regularly check their website, there is no way of knowing unfortunately. Sprint doesn't market itself well at all IMHO.

its been a bit slow lately, but this is a slow time for carriers anyway. they are set to launch four or five devices this month. and now matter how many devices vzw releases, with their vanilla ui and closed system sprint will always have a better lineup

I truly believe that Sprint is looking to slowly force out low ARPU customers. With the strength of the largest Rev A EVDO network, they need to focus on customers that are actually going to make them money. Think about it. You get rid of all the customers that don't make you money, which are typically the ones that call customer care the most, and cause the most heartache. You get customers on board that will increase ARPU and complain less. They also tend to have more invested into their phone and plan, which causes less churn... and that's what Sprint really needs. If all you as a company has to worry about is minutes, and everything else becomes unlimited for a reasonable fee, the costs of doing business are drastically reduced. Customer service goes through the roof, because you have fewer people calling in about problems with billing! Fewer calls equals lower cost of operation, equals more devices, equals more high ARPU customers, equals turning a gigantic sinking ship around in about two years.

Anyway, this is all just one Geek's opinion.

sprint has come straight out and said this actually. thats why they tightened up their credit policies about a year and a half ago, thats why youre seeing retentions being able to do less and less and thats why youre seeing plan restrictions for the instinct. btw, it appears these restrictions are hard; they system has supposedly been changed so reps straight up cant put the instinct on another plan.

why would you get an instinct without one of these plans?? speaking of low profit customers.....all the SERO people need to stop whining too... nothing in life is free... there are 20 phones to use with the SERO plans GET OVER IT!!!

I don't have Sero, but I have to wonder about the Talk/Data/Message share plans. $129 for 1500 minutes shared between 2 phones. My finace and I have a shared 700 minute plan and have never exceeded maybe 500 of those anytime minutes. I'd be more than happy to switch plans if I wasn't wasting so much money on minutes that I'll never use. Why does the talk share plan start at 700 minutes, but the talk/data/message share starts at 1500 minutes? I love Sprint and have been a customer for nearly 8 years, but at least cater to the customer's needs. I know all these other carriers started offering these unlimited minute plans, but most of them have a shared plan with under 1000 anytime minutes as well.

First, VZW has the most expansive Rev A coverage in the country, and with the acquisition of Alltel, they will have the entire country. Not to mention the launch of LTE in the next 12-18 months.

Don't fool yourself, Sprint is going down in flames! How can they possibly maintain and develop anything new when their net customer gain is a a negative 1,000,000 subs?
