Sprint says No to Tour pre-orders while Verizon flips and says ok

When we reported yesterday that Verizon was blocking pre-orders for those who wanted to upgrade their current device to the BlackBerry Tour 9630, we suggested that perhaps the carrier would reverse the policy after hearing complaints. Enough of you must have contacted Big Red because the carrier has done a 180 degree flip flop. The web site now reads, "Existing customers will be able to upgrade or purchase the BlackBerry Tour on this site very soon. Please check back with us tomorrow."

On the other side of the coin, a Twitter message from Sprint's manager of social media and interactive communications, in reply to a query, said that there will be no pre-orders for the BlackBerry Tour. Of course, there is always a chance that if enough complaints come in, Sprint will reverse their decision. It seems to have worked with Verizon, so why not give it a shot? By the way, both carriers expect to launch the Tour on July 12th for $199.99 after rebate with a two year contract.

Does anyone know how much the mail in rebate is andhow much the instant rebate is for?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's $70 mail in rebate.

I believe the Phone was $489 without a contract. If that's correct the 2 year contract discount is probably around $220.

Again, PhoneArena misses the mark! Since day one , Verizon wanted to allow upgrade lines to pre-order but the website was riddled with errors allowing only add a lines or new customers to pre-order. Thier I-T has been working on a fix for days. Please contact a Verizon company source before publishing rumors.

I think the PhoneArena journalists should read the comments posted on articles before writting more articles with bad information. This information was provided in the comments section of a previous article. I'm sure the comment on Verizon's page was complaint driven, but not the decision to allow people to upgrade. They were just trying to provide a mass communication so people didn't think it was intentional.

Also Sprint may not offer pre-orders for the Tour due to a limitation in their contract. I'm not familiar enough with the carrier to know if they typically allow for pre-orders.

Exactly, I don't normally complain about phonearena's posts, but it's starting to seem eerily like facebook. Uncensored rumors are presented as fact. What's next, they hear their 12 year old little cousins saying, "Verizon is going to buy AT&T!" and then they post an article headlining, "From a VZW tipster, Big Red is going to buy Big Blue!"?

I wrk for Sprint and the company doesn't offer pre-orders for ANY phone. If they did, don't you think they would have done that for the Pre?

Whatsmore, is they KNEW they were wrong but like a 5 year old thats been caught in their own lie refused to simply correct their own error at the expense of others.

Who cares if you can't preorder a freaking phone!!! IT"S A PHONE!!!! WHO CARES!!!! Let's make a big deal out of nothing, OK? "OMG i can't "pre"order a phone the world is going ot end... oh, what was that, i can just go to the store on the release date, oh I guess I was a drama queen. I guess i should stop crying about nothing. Oh no the store is out.... TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN OVER NOTHING!" Why not just calm the F down and just wait, if the store is out you can probably have it sent to you...

again.......... WHO CARES!
