Today, Sony Ericsson announced a couple of new models - one for the Cyber-shot camera phone line and one for the music-centric Walkman line. Both will have European and American versions, with frequencies suitable for these markets, but there is no information on expected carrier availablitly.
The C510 is said to be the most affordable Cyber-shot phone to date, but also isn't shy when it comes to features. It's camera resolution is only 3.2-megapixels but there are lots of options, including face detection, and Smile Shutter, first for Sony Ericsson phone. In its 12.5mm slim body, the C510 also packs the good Internet browser and YouTube player, backed up by the 3G HSPA support, 2.2" QVGA display and M2 memory card slot. C510 is said to be available before the end of the first quarter.
Sony Ericsson C510 Specifications
If you prefer to listen to music instead of to take pictures, you'd better take a look at the Walkman phones. The new W508 is one of the few of the line, with a clamshell form-factor. It has small monochromatic OLED external display and music centric keys when closed and 2.2" QVGA screen on the inside. A typical Walkman, it comes with TrackID, Shake and Gesture control and SenseMe. In order to personalize its look easier, it will have an additional color faceplate in the box. Expect it in the second quarter of the year.
Sony Ericsson W508 Specifications
It's rather strange that the most-affordable Cyber-shot phone has the Smile Shutter feature and the higher-class models don't, isn't it. Well, starting mid-February there will be a firmware upgrade for the 8-megapixel C905, which will add this feature, YouTube, Wayfinder 8, HP's Snapfish application for printing and threaded SMS/MMS messages. Another "upgrade" is the new W715, which is a GPS-enabled version of the W705, exclusively for Vodafone Europe.
