Sony Ericsson makes Xperia X10 official

It's finally official. Sony Ericsson has introduced the Xperia X10, formerly known as the Xperia X3 and Rachael. The Android powered device will be equipped with an 8.1MP camera, a huge 4 inch capacitive display and two special apps for media and communication aggregation. All this and a custom UI as well. The X10 will be equipped with Wi-Fi and feature a 3.5mm audio jack. Sony Ericsson will preinstall an 8GB microSD card on the device.

The two special apps are called Mediascape and Timescape. Timescape pushes events onto a set of tumbling panes on the screen that update with the latest events, emails, SMS messages, calls and even Facebook and Twitter updates.  All of this info can be tapped on to be seen completely. Pressing on an infinity symbol in the corner allows the phone to check on and off-line for related information. Mediascape does the same thing for your audio, video and pictures. The screen is divided into two halves with the top being local content from the phone while the bottom half shows online content providers like YouTube. Tapping on the infinity symbol pulls together on and off-line info on a specific artist, for example, and could show links to YouTube videos and other information. Some of this we have seen before when we showed you a video of the handset's UI.

The joint venture says it expects to release the X10 in the first quarter of 2010 and sales of the phone could come shortly after that in Europe. A global rollout is expected including a Stateside launching (according to the specs we received, the phone will be usable with AT&T's and T-Mobile's 3G networks). Sony Ericsson is calling the Xperia X10 it's flagship model for 2010.

well, if they are releasing in q1 2010, they have a good amount of time to optimize it and smooth it out. no biggie.
