Sliding Walkman

Sony Ericsson W580, being a Walkman variant of S500, disposes with the extra functions, typical of this series: an improved music player, FM radio, as well as the new Shake technology for changing tracks by a jerky movement. Like many of the new models of the manufacturer, this one also features quite interesting Flash themes, which add some freshness to its appearance. One is left with a pleasant feeling when operating it and its functionality is just sufficient to meet the basic needs of the musically oriented users.

had the fone 3 weeks sent just over 1000 texts and the number 6 button had already cracked. battery life poor and doesnt last a full day. had better fones and wudnt recommend it

Excellent sound quality and volume. I find the speakers in front are actually and advantage. Only problem is the battery life, but i have been reducing screen brightness to 60% in all my SE mobiles, which increases the battery life considerably. Options are slightly limited when it comes to connectivity, though, as there is no infrared port or 3G connectivity. The positioning of the volume buttons turns out to be more handy than the old positioning, but the plug for the headset tends to get in the way of your fingers when typing an sms or keying in a number, as it is on the side. The only other problem with this phone is that the number pad is rather fragile. Otherwise, it is one of the best phones i have ever purchased.

I have been using sony ericsson phones for the last 3 years and have always been really pleased with the quality of the phone. When I went to get my new phone I was assured that the W580 had all the features on my current phone (W810i) I was drawn in by the slim design and flashing lights Possibly one of the prettiest sony ericssons out.

However I soon realised that this phone was not as good as I had believed. The camara has very poor quality and the zoom function doesn't work adequately. The keys have all cracked within a month and though this does not inhibit the use it was not what i expected to happen over a month. The shake function requires more effort than simply pressing a button as after a couple of weeks I had to violently shake it to get it to change, this also mean that the fitness program wasn't acurate.

all in all i am very disapointed ith this phone and can't wait until christmas

This phone hands down is the best ive seen or owned very addicting featurs, steller music player worth every penny! i did have to send one back beacause the keys crackedNote it didnet effect anything "hair linr cracks" but gave the company heads up and got a new one in 3-7 days, seems that they have fixed the issu the keys seem more stable, dont let a small manufactuer hold you back on this one, im sure corprate addresed and fixed the problem.

"best phone ever" better than black berry perl and outhers!!

I got this phone for my wife and so far, this phones kicks the competition all over.. I also want a slider, but because of the lack of good quality options from other brands, I think now that this baby comes in BLACK, I may end up getting it for my self..

No idea whats the deal with the cracked keys, we have had hours for around 45 days or so, and nothing has cracked on it.. So far, this baby has been the best we have ever had..

This little beauty here had lit up my life. I wasn't sure of picking this phone due to the faulty keypad but in the end i still pick it. This phone has great music interface with MegaBass which amplify bass!!! ItS a huge difference compare to manually raising the bass to max... Another thing to take note of is its design. Its beautiful and slim!!! Not to mention the dazzling side light effect. The faulty keypad happened to me but you can still press it so i can suck it up. OVERALL!!! GREAT PHONE!!

47. One of the best in my life...YET

This is one of the best phone I got in my life. I have a k550 before i got this beauty here, and the difference is huge.

Pros of w580
-Great Design
-Not your stereotypical soap bar slider phone (the curve at the base enhanced its design)
-Geat speaker (much clearer and louder than k550)
-No joystick
-Free 512MB card
-A headphone with a changable 3.5mm audio jack (or is it??? i am not sure myself, but I do know that you can change)
-High resolution screen
-Dazzling side-light that changes along with the color of the theme
-Bright and colourful screen (can be seen clearly in broad daylight under the sun)
-Signal is really good!!

Cons of w580
-Slider is not that firm
-Weak paint that comes of in 2 weeks time
-Same old interface of Sony Ericsson
-Same old Walkman 2.0 which w850, w660, w610 has.
-Cracked keypad (it will happen, regardless of your batch)

This is all I have to say about this great phone. I am glad to have pick this phone despite of the cracked keypad. TWO thumbs up!

48. Much Better then Expected

This phone is by far the best phone I have had do far. It does everything we want and more.. And even though this baby does not have 3G, the reception on this phone is so good that is like been on Verizon as for Call quality. This phone probes the point that you can have a good or bar carrier, but as long as you have an outstanding phone to go with it, it does not make a difference if you carrier is just OK or not..

I have heard issues with the keys braking, but we have had ours for over 35 days and nor problems at all..

49. Nice phone but horrible customer service

I've had this phone for 2 months now and some of the keys are begining to crack in half. I do text often (about 150 a month) and I feel dissapointment with sony. I've had other phones and they've last me years. I signed a 3 year contract and now i'm stuck with this phone. it's a great mp3 player phone but sucks as a text messaging phone. I even called sony ericsson and they said that they "can't do anything" and basically its your loss. I understand have the warranty for the phone but 2 mnths into a contract out of 36 and the phone is already broken. I even taked to the manager and she was even more rude than the first guy!

Conclusion: If you text at all, or dial numbers instead of storing them in your phone, get something else!

I just got this phone, and it is probably the best phone i have ever got. It's thin, it has everything you would look for in a phone, and i like that it lights up on the sides. The volume for the music is also amazing, it's like you have a mini boombox in your pocket!
