The other day we reported that T-Mobile was about to make a game changing announcement. We were told by our tipster that employees had to sign non-disclosure agreements, and that the so called "Project Black" would lift the carrier out of its' current 4th place standing among U.S. wireless operators. Today, BGR picked up some info from one of its' tipsters. They called the up-coming announcement "Project Dark" and said it revolves around the launch of three handsets. Those phones are the BlackBerry 9700, the Motorola CLIQ and the Samsung Behold II. Also involved is a rapid expansion of T-Mobile's 3G network and we are talking about the 21 Mbps HSPA, the same pipeline rollout that the carrier just completed in Philadelphia. That's all they have learned at the moment and we will try to get some more info from the tipster who first brought this to our attention the other day. While there might be more changes coming, would you call any of this "game changing"?

Its game changing in the fact that t-mobile doesnt completely blow anymore, but its not gonna make them #1 just cause they are launching a couple new phones, if anything its catching up.

But i would pick up a 9700 on t-mobile over att in a heartbeat

That is not game changing adding a few good handsets, the others are adding just as good if not better handsets, even going to 21 mbps won't change the game because they don't have the coverage with their network the others have. It is spotty where verizon, at&t and sprint have good coverage. The only way it is game changing is if the rumours are true that their parent company is going to but out Sprint. How about a handset that can switch between the Tmobile gsm network to the Sprint evdo network and back, then they would have the coverage. That would be game changing

i would have to agree carp45 unfortunately, but that would definitely be game changing and an eye opener for the other carriers if they announce that they bought Sprintel and that the 3 new handsets were able to access all the networks!

Not only a handset that changes from GSM to EVDO, but also WiMax... and eventually LTE to WiMax... sounds like too much work, and very improbable...

I really don't think T-Mo and Sprint are hooking up

Sprint might have to or bleed to death and tmobile will never be anything but last place, it makes perfect sense to merge . And a handset with gsm and evdo and wimax is not far fetched. Sprint is already going to come out with a evdo wimax handset next year I think first quarter . The only thing sprint has going for it is they don't cripple phones like verizon and at&t

Well the game is the fact that they're increasing their coverage. No worries about complicated switching when t-mobile is going to get the coverage on their own.

Regardless, the real game change is the part that phone arena hasn't updated on yet. $50 unlimited with these handsets, increased coverage, and increased speed is bound to convert more than a few people. You arnet going to win with tech stuff you can't put in a fancy add. Zeta-jones telling people they don't have to pay over $50 anymore is putting them to #3.

Well I wouldn't switch because of Zeta Jones, if there coverage is spotty which it is they won't convert many, right now I can make calls with sprint coverage where tmobile has none and they have already expanded in the dc area and their 3g coverage is really lacking
