Samsung Glyde U940 and Blackberry Curve 8330 releasing on May 9th

After long wait, both the Samsung Glyde U940 and Blackberry Curve 8330 will be released via the Verizon Wireless site starting on May 9th. However, some customers have been able to call and order the devices since May 1st.

The Glyde is Samsung's competition to the LG Voyager. It features a single 2.8" capacitive sensitive WQVGA display, slide out QWERTY keypad, HTML browser, 2MP camera with flash, Bluetooth, MP3 music player, stereo speakers, and supports microSDHC cards up to 8GB in size. Pricing will be $249, after a $50 rebate with 2-year contract.

The Blackberry Curve has a larger QWERTY keypad than the Pearl, but lacks the GSM roaming capabilities of the 8830. It features a 2.5" QVGA display with LED backlight, full HTML browser and E-Mail capabilities, 2MP camera with flash, Bluetooth, VZ Navigator, and supports microSDHC cards up to 8GB in size. Unfortunately, data only supports EVDO Rev 0 and is not upgradeable to the faster Rev A. Pricing will be $269, after a $50 rebate with 2-year contract. An additional $100 discount will be applied for those who sign up for a 2-year data plan.

Both devices are currently shown on Verizon's Testman site, which usually lists phones a few days before their official release.

You are entitles to YOUR opinion, but it doesn't have to be everyone elses. Think about it, a lot
of people say the same about the Voyager, but look at how many people absolutely love it.

the glyde will be launching on all channels on May 9th. That means direct, telesales, online, and
if the indirects are quick enough theyll launch on the 9th as well. The blackberry curve will
launch online, telesales and B2B on the 9th, and will be available in all channels on the 12th.

Well, well, well. The world of phones is supposed to take notice of a device that for god knows
how long, has been awaiting it's arrival. The reality is that the phone called the Samsung Glyde
is one of the most talked about long awaited, and hyped up phone. The question that remains: Will
this handset be all that it's hyped up to be? We all know that Verizon has this one peeve that
pisses me off till no end when they modify a phone to make it worse than it's original. Example:
the HTC Touch. How in the world can you haev this awesome device but can't play any V-Cast stuff?

So getting back to the subject: Can the Glyde knock off the Voyager? I've had the Voyager and I
must say it's a great phone but 2 problems: It has the worst speaker and ringtone volume on the
planet. You have to have the Daredevil's hearing to hear the phone ring. I hope the Glyde will be
successful. As far as the Blackberry is concerned, there's no use in starting the comment page
with dumb remarks. I am awaiting the day I can order the Glyde. If this sucks, then the Glyde and
Voyager can kill themselves as I get the LG ENV2.

you are either deaf or have a problematic phone. my voyager can be loud and obnoxious worse than my
envy. Also, check and make sure you have the latest software flash. It should be version 07.
The env2 is a nice phone

the touch is a PDA, and there fore NOT ABLE TO DO VCAST which is a DUMBPHONE feature!!! no
smartphones do vcast...

as much as everyone has touted and shouted about the Croix software and the different touch screen
on the Glyde, i can safely say taht it makes NO difference on the phone. The phone actually LAGS a
bit when you touch an icon, unlike the voyager. Also, every one of us who has played with the
glyde does not think the screen is so accurate in its sensing, espeically compared to a properly
aligned voyager or pda. correct me if im wrong, but i can find no place to be able to even look at
alignment on the glyde. The touchscreen is smaller. It is not a bad phone however, it is just not
a voyager though. At 199 after rebate, its a great option for those who want touch fun and almost
all the features of the voyager but dont want TV. I however, am staying with my big black
monster.

What I like about the Curve is that it will have a feature of the Curve ( camera ) and the 8830 (
full keyboard ). Too bad it won't be a global phone. As for the Glyde, it's just hard for me to
trust anything from Samsung, but the jury is out. It's a cool looking phone. One other side note:
Not to get off subject, but whatever happened to the HTC Iris that Phonearena listed as an
upcoming Verizon phone way back in December? It's not that the phone has a lot to talk about (
it's downright ugly too ), but I haven't heard a word on it at all .... from Verizon OR HTC.

The Glyde is soooo much better than the Voyager, I've been playing around with it for about a week
now and the touch UI is definitely better, the web browser is also faster on the Glyde.

Yo i still want to know if the glyde can multi-task similar to that of the lg chocolate. I have the chocolate and i like having the ability to listen to my misic and text at the same time. Can the glyde do this because i know the voyager can't and also cant multi-task which is really gay. I still plan on getting this phone but i still want to know.

Finally able to order this phone via telesales. Total cost was $129.99 after corporate discount and $50 mail-in rebate. Don't forget to ask about the corp. discount... they tried to tell me it was $249.99 and were shocked when I brought the issue up.

Nope, this is just a corporate discount for the company I work for. The majority of companies have discounts with cell phone providers... if you are working I'd check with your employer to see if you have one.
