Palm Pre to get U.K. release

advertisment:
That cool new Palm smartphone that carries the heavy load of possibly making the company relevant again, will not only be released in the U.S. this year, but will also see the light of day in Britain. Paul Ghent, VP of sales for Palm Europe said that he expects the Pre to be launched in Britian sometime in the second half of this year. At the same time, Palm announced that a WDCMA version of the device will be made for areas outside of the U.S. Palm is counting heavily on the new touchscreen phone to reverse its fortunes and the overall response was positive when the new model was introduced yesterday at the CES. Sprint, another company that has been looking for a hot cellphone to counter AT&T's iPhone and Verizon's BlackBerry Storm, is expected to be the U.S. carrier that will be adding the new Palm model to their line-up sometime in the first half of 2009.

What do you think? Will the Pre be able to muscle its way into the touchscreen competition?

You can check our CES: Live Report for images and a hands-on video of the Palm Pre.

I read their stock went up over 35% in one day. Guessing this has something to do with that.

Why does the article first refer to Britain, and then to England, and then back to Britain again? You do realise they're different places, right? England is part of Britain, but Britain also includes Scotland and Wales. Please, take a Geography lesson!
