Omnia reduced to $199

After only being out on the streets since last Wednesday, Verizon has lowered the price of the Samsung Omnia from $249 to $199 (after $70 rebate). This puts it more in-line with the price of the BlackBerry Storm, iPhone 3G, and T-Mobile's G1, which are currently $199 and $179 respectfully. We hope that Verizon will issue a $50 credit for customers who call in about the price drop, since it falls under their "Worry Free Guarantee". One thing that doesn't make sense is that Verizon's HTC Touch Pro is still $349, making it $50 more than the Sprint version.

I currently have the storm updated to 4.7.0.75
and I'm thinking of returning it for either a Saga or a Omnia.
Can someone tell me whats the best one out of the three?

The Saga has GSM for overseas roaming and a real QWERTY keypad. But the Omnia has a larger display (with touch-qwerty) and a 5MP camera. If you don't need the GSM roaming, go with the Omnia.

I have the Omnia and it is an amazing device. To be honest, it is better than the storm. Faster, the keyboard is easier to use, dosen't freeze. The list goes on and on...... It is Verizons best PDA at the moment.

when playing around with the omnia it just seems not as nice as the storm. I guess I am spoiled by the screen on the storm. The omnia's screen looks, for lack of a better word, cheap. It is faster now, the keyboard use depends on the user but seems comparable to me. With the s/w updates to the storm it should be better execpt for the sureclick depending on who you are.

To #8: The Omnia that Verizon sells does NOT have a GSM radio or a SIM slot. There is a GSM Omnia that is sold overseas that does have a SIM slot.

#35, where you one of those school kids who lied all the time? THE VERIZON OMNIA DOES NOT HAVE GSM OR A PLACE FOR A SIM CARD. How do I know, because I've been using it for almost a week.

I've had the Saga for a few days now.. amazing phone, finally traded in my trusty i730. Didn't feel like fn around with the Omnia's accelerometer hang-ups or dangling styli. I write alot of emails and the Omnia's on-screen keyboard takes 2-3 times as long to type on as the Saga's physical qwerty.

Also, on the Saga the optical thumb mouse is apx 1/3 of the way up the unit allowing for optimal use. On the Omnia, the sensor is at the very bottom. That's be great if I had a thumb growing out the bottom of my hand, but I dont.

This phone is great.. anyone currently using this phone for sprint? I was thinking about buying an unlocked version since verizon is requiring that you have a $30 data plan.

That would be sweet if you could get around that damn 29.99 data plan. Verizon finally comes out with a decent phone with Wi-Fi and then mandates a 29.99 data plan to go along with it. Greedy bastards, I hope nobody buys this damn thing until Verizon changes their mind on the data plan.. If you have access to Wi-FI, it is difficult to justify 360.00 a year for something that you don't need.

Maybe they dropped the price because nobody is buying due to the stupid F*cking data plan requirement!

Sorry to burst your bubble but the Omnio is selling like hotcakes. The $29.99 required data plan has hardly stopped anyone who really wants this from buying it.

Yeah, why would you want a phone that can do all this cool web surfing and HAVE to get a data plan? Waaay, waaay, Give me a break bro. Quit whining about having to pay for a data pkg. At least its not the 44.99 pkg, which used to be the only option to get unlimited. The great thing about having the wifi too is that if you're in an area that you can't pick up EVDO, or don't have service, you can at least get on the net.
And everyone seems to be over looking the cost of AT&T's data plan for the i-Phone.

they dropped the price to offer customers another device if they didn't want to order the storm or wait for it to come back in stock

has nothing to do with the data fee, douche

its not an fm transmitter like on the chocolate 3 or the fusic, its an actual fm radio. i played with one in store today and saw the feature but the phone was not active and i couldn't use it.

It is an FM tuner, NOT a transmitter. Simply plug in some stereo headphones and it will use the headphones as your antennae.

#20 it has a FM Radio, not a transmitter. There is no transmitter built in the phone like the chocolate, but you can stream your music to your car using a simple 2.55 mm jack adapter.

#21 Sorry to hear you have T Mobile, life will get better probably...and no u can not use a CDMA phone on a GSM network. But thanks and come again.
