The Nokia N97 is without doubt one of the most eagerly anticipated smart phones of the year. However, we had no information on the processor it would feature until recently. Now we have found out and it left us unimpressed. Turns out Nokia has decided to use a single ARM 11 processor clocked at 434 MHz. This is quite a disappointment, since we hoped to see at least a 600 MHz CPU inside, like the one used in Nokia E55 and a number of other handsets announced earlier this year. This puts the Nokia N97 just a step ahead of its famous sibling, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in terms of raw power – the 5800 sports a similar unit running at 369 MHz, while both devices have 128 MB of RAM.
We believe Nokia will do their level best to optimize its software platform for the N97. On the other hand the Samsung OMNIA HD i8910 is based on the same platform and utilizes much faster processing unit and dedicated graphics accelerator, a fact that makes Nokia’s device look somewhat outdated and underpowered.
