A new software update for the Nokia N800 is a fact and the Internet Tablet now offers Skype functionality, which has been expected since the tablet was announced. Until now, people who have the N800 used Gizmo Project as the only VoIP client for the system, but we are happy that finally Skype is available.
Upgrading of the N800 Internet Tablet is an easy job, after you download the upgrade tool from manufacturer's webpage and do a few steps, a few minutes will be required to download and install the new software. The re-flashed N800 automatically found the data backup we made minutes before the installation and returned our personal data. Skype was downloaded and installed in a minute and after entering username and password started working.
You can have a few chats opened simultaneously but cannot chat while a call is present. Still, video conversations are not supported, although the N800’s hardware should be capable of doing this. We hope this will be fixed in the future.
