6.6 out of 10

I used the Nokia N70 for a year and a half on a everyday daily basis and it's a great device, since I was coming from a Nokia 6682. The N70 was great the begining, but I started to notice things as time went on. From the design, to the features, to sound quality, to signal strength to it's overall performance.

The DESIGN is OK. Buttons a little cramped and with them being flat it's hard to gain a sense of feel with them. This is so evident to the #2 buton on the key pad. You'll find yourself clicking the down key on the scroll pad by accident a lot. If the buttons were raised a little, it would of made a huge difference, but I found myself clicking accidently the #2/down key a lot when texting. The camera shutter key on the side is tucked into the base and it's hard to sometimes. The sliding back panel for the camera seems flimsy at times. Plus, accessing the memory card is a task if you don't have some long fingernails. I used a writing pen to take it in and out due to it's placement.

The FEATURESon he phone are great. With it being a Nokia and working off Symbian OS makes it open many third party OS progams and games. I've loaded Opera mini, Acrobat, a few games, music, and even a mini GPS sysem and it handled it all well as long as I didn't them all open at the same time. I wish it came with more internal memory since at times the interface can be quite sluggish even with one program opened.

The SOUND QUALITY is great. Able to hear conversations very well, music player sounds great and the speaker phone is very sensitive to the point that people can't tell if their on speaker phone or not. Very clear with barely any back ground noise when talking on te speaker phone.

SIGNAL STRENGTH is where is where the major flaws come in. I'm in the heart of the midwest and I knowthe phone is triband, but acquiring a signal sometimes was the worst. I could be out and about and depending on where I was, my signal would go in and out. A big irritation no doubt. I couldn't talk at home, or work or even in certain shopping centers without having to walk around and constantly search for a signal. Even when I talk on the phone others would say I sounded muffled or the calls would drop due to weak signal. I tested out a N73 and this quad-band phone should make a HUE difference.

A little PRICEY, but it's a nice phone with good multi-media capabilities.

OVERALL, the N70 is a very nice starter for smoeone who wants a low end smart phone. I truly enjoyed it while a I had it, but the signal issues were quite irritating after a while. I will pass this knowledge that you make sure you acquire a quad-band phone if you're in the states, it really does make a hug difference, buy a minimum 1GB memory card, you will use it and need the space. Make sure you physically play with the phone to see how it feels and works for or against your daily usage. I'm left handed and it makes a big diference when I hold a phone, since phones are pretty much made for right handers.

Good luck and hope this review helps in your phone buying decision.

Great device overall, but not without its problems.
Battery life is abysmal (for me, being used to phones that last weeks on a charge instead of days).
It's slow, long response times to button presses.
After about a year the screen had to be replaced (which Nokia did under warranty) after it suddenly failed to render anything but random noise.

That said, it's the best phone I've used since my old 6110 died after 5 years of faithful service.
