No visual voicemail for the Palm Pre

Though some future Pre users might miss it, Kirk Yuhnke has informed through Twitter that a visual voicemail feature will not be present on the smartphone. However, do not be disappointed, as you never know when a passionate individual would decide to develop their own. Of course, a later software update might also do the trick, but we would rather not count on that in particular.

I've never really wanted visual voice-mail on my phone... I just couldn't see the need for it. So it's my opinion that it's not that big of a loss when the palm pre doesn't have VVM.

You guys are so set on the pre, that you guys are making excuses for what it's lacking. You guys probably don't use visual voicemail very often but it is more convinient to use the feature instead of the standard why when you do get a voicemail.

So besides visual voicemail (which the majority of phones don't have anyway), what is it missing? It's not as if visual voicemail is an industry standard.

How about the first or even 3G iphone? How many standard features are missing on those phones? Yet people look the other way. This is no different. People will defend what they like no matter what. Besides, not having visual voicemail is hardly a deal breaker no matter how you look at it.

Yes but I dont say that picture messaging and video capabilities are unimportant. I have the iPhone but Um still very dissappoontrd that it's lacking a lot of basic functions. But they are saying that it sucks and such just because it's not offered on the phone.

Really? That's kind of a weird reason to be turned away from a phone. Nine times out of ten, if I don't answer my phone they'll just leave a text message which I can read clearly instead of having to listen to a voicemail which can sometimes be difficult to understand depending on where they are when they call anyway.

I agree with everyone else. It's not a big deal. I've had the Instinct since it came out and I still count how many voicemails I've received with ten fingers.

You may not have to wait that long to have VVM on the Pre...3rd party developer is already talking about developing it for the Pre.

too bad, Palm has always been behind in the times and I dont expect this device to be that advanced or groundbreaking.

Well that's okay that you don't expect this device to be that advanced or groundbreaking, because the Storm isn't either.

just use youmail.com. It's free (ad-supported) and works with any phone that can handle multimedia in its web browser. The Pre should qualify.

I have played with it, and it is meh. Nothing spectacular to be frank, the screen is small, the buttons are crammed together, the touch technology is fantastic(very responsive) but it is not big enough or revolutionary in any aspect, just a follower and not a leader in my opinion.
