New milestone is hit as Apple approves over 100,000 iPhone apps This article contains unofficial information.

advertisment:
The never ending praise continues as Apple's own App Store has reached yet another new milestone – the approval of over 100,000 apps for the iPhone. Sure there's no denying the impact of the App Store to the iPhone platform – its foundation paved the way for others that offered a centralized hub for all software needs. Third party metrics site AppShopper has clocked in Apple's approved apps at 101,561 with only 92,872 currently available on the App Store. Another rival analytics site, Mobclix, currently lists available iPhone apps that have been released at 103,295. We can all continue to clap our hands in silence as this figure will most likely gradually increase over the course of the next year. There have been some memorable ones that we all can nostalgically look back at and wonder how in the world did some of them get approved. Then again, there are some on the not yet approved list that still are waiting for their turn in the spot light.

Well, I for one am happy that such an open platform exists. This is a good thing, you lemonsuckers. Don't think of this in terms of the iphone. Think of this in terms of the good it does for the industry.

Having an open environment for applications programming and having an open platform are two different things. Don't confuse the two. iPhone OS is not open.

Great, now that Apple got their PR for hitting 6 figures, can we go through the app store and delete about 70,000 or so useless apps cluttering the store? I can't find anything worth getting anymore.

I find it funny how many stories about the iPhone draw people into commenting on them. Most of the time it turns into a raging debate about AT&T vs VZW. We're talking about PHONES here people. It's not that big a deal.
Also, how many people care about how many apps the iPhone has? It'd take a long time to just go through them all, not to mention just finding ones that you will use.
