New SD memory card spec brings mobile storage to a new level

advertisment:
A new SD memory card specification called SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity), was announced at CES. It promises up to 2-terabytes of storage on a single card and reading/writing speeds of up to 104 MB /s. If that is slow for you, keep in mind there are plans for increasing it to 300 MB/s. 2TB is quite a lot of storage space and you can fit up to 100 HD movies or 17 000 high-quality photos on a single card. We are looking forward to getting our hands on such memory card, but it will probably take a few years, to get to that point.

Wow, I just bought a 1TB external HD this summer, but 2TB seems amazing for an SD card. However, I doubt that microSD will get 2TB soon, but thats too much memory (in my opinion) for anyone's good.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw the 100MB drives come out. Who on earth would want to store 100MB worth of data?...it would take a lifetime to fill up!

I think I wasn't looking ahead.

If you have 2TB of data that you need to put on a SD card..... you have problems. Also, how much do you think they will sell this for. Better off getting an external HD, they make them small enough now.

You don't see the advantage in having that much capacity on your phone (movies and music) or your iPod (music and movies) or your new digital camera (pictures and video)?

Yeah, the internet is just a fad too. If you need to spend more than 10 minutes a week on a computer, you have problems.

Let's see, looking into the future, with this much memory you could not only store almost every movie from 1999 to 2008 (the good ones), you might have a PROJECTOR phone to show it on!

2tb is awesome. think of how much functionality, programs, and other useful and entertaining things you could do with it. phones are not just for calling.

and that will come. there is always the ever persistent rumor of a portable xbox phone/handheld. prob 2 more years and the chips in the phones will be powerful enough to really do some neat things in those areas.
