Mozilla previews Firefox Mobile

Mobile Safari is the standard, and we though Opera Mobile 9.5 upstaged that, but to be honest there is a good chance both of them are just placeholders until Firefox releases their mobile browser. We've heard/dreamt about it for years now, and there was even a beta back in the day, but Mozilla has indeed committed to bringing Firefox to the mobile market and today we get our first sneak peak.

advertisment:
Aza Raskin, Mozilla's Head of User Experience, gives us a quick walk-through and explains some of the basic features of the browser. It's still in very early development stages, so don't expect to see this soon and they can always choose to go in a different direction, but what little we get to see looks innovative. It takes a completely new approach than we've seen before, which is the kind of thinking we like. Check out the video to see what Mozilla has so far.

i think apple would want to keep their safari browser on their iphones.

now for the layout, i hate having a bunch of windows laid out all over the place. i would much rather like to see one window open with tabs at the top of the screen (just like the computer browser style)...would be much cleaner and organized.

i do love the navigational options of flicking the page out... it eliminates nav keys that take up valuble screen space (unlike the stupid samsung glyde browser where half of the screen are nav buttons)

so you complain about screen space, but then want tabs which will take it up? their idea is brilliant

theres no way that apple will let us use firefox on their iphone... i'd say that they will only allow the safari browser. thank goodness for hackers who will find a way, right? :P

I think this should be for AT&T and AT&T only!!! It should be on the next version of the TILT or the Vu!!! It looks sooo intuitive!!!

Why at&t only?? The entire idea behind firefox is that it is open source and can be used on multiple platforms. It would be counter-intuitive to restrict it to one platorm.

That being said, firefox rules!!!

I'm sure they are going to go on a different direction because have such advanced interface and so many windows running at the same time will require a lot of memory and a fast processor, which unfortunatelly smart phones like the iphone are barely starting to develop.
