1. Good reliable phone for me at least

I think that this phone is a pretty decent phone. I've had it since December 2007 and it still works fine. It never really froze on me, unlike all the other reviews. Calling and texting works fine. Its other features are pretty good as well. I would recomend this phone, but it really is a personal preference. I mean if you want to just use a phone for basic functions, then this would be a great phone.
Durability
Call quality
Service reception
TextingSlow to turn on

2. Buy American

We bought my daughter's W490 for her birthday. We paid full amount, close or over $200.00. The charging port broke within 6 months. We were under warranty so it got replaced. Silly me, I though I would get a NEW phone as a replacement. Be advised that there is no such thing once you have had the phone for 15 days. You actually have 14 days after purchase to return the phone and get your money back, but once that 15th day has arrived, your screwed. You could have paid $300.00 and on that 15th day it breaks down for any reason, you would still get a piece of junk refurbished phone as a replacement. Let me reinterate..You get a piece of CRAP refurbished phone. I really don't think people know this. We are talking $200.00 here and in this economy, you most definitely want to get what you paid for. We did not. So, phone failed, we get the USED PHONE/REFURBISHED REPLACEMENT and it lasts 7 months and the same problem occurs - a defective charging port. Well, they tell me that they cannot replace it again as my original phone's 1 yr warranty has run out. I tell them, give me a supervisor and go on to tell her that I have yet to get a phone from you that has actually lasted a year and I paid $200.00 for it. Well, she hems and haws and finally agrees to send me ANOTHER PIECE OF CRAP REFURBISHED PHONE. All the while, I am thinking,....... how long will this one last? I'll try to remember to write back and tell you.
So, I started thinking....What a racket this could be if they are really just selling us refurbished phones for NEW ones! It is possible. I mean really, how are we to know? Now I'm not saying they are, I'm just saying, could this happen? So I track down the original phone's Manufacturing Number and call Motorola. I mean, I wanted to see if it was ever repaired and sent out before I bought it. Well...they Couldn't find it in their system. How convenient. I was told by a customer service person at T-Mobile that Motorola would have it on record. I mean, they have to have a manufacturing number for every phone they have made. They said they didn't have the number in the system. What can you make of this?
Another note, my phone was made in Singapore, need I say more.
It's up to you if you buy one of these, but I hope my EXPERIENCE has helped you choose wisely. Good Luck and remember, "The big guy never really cares about the little guy UNTIL YOU QUIT BUYING HIS PRODUCTS!"

after a year and half after use, the phone is showing the white screen of death, sometimes when i flip it open it dials the same person. Somtimes the main screen goes dark and the keypad lights up, then minutes later it starts functioning. I took this phone to a tmobile store and they told me that a software update would fix all these problems; so i went onto tmobile.com and after an hour of looking for software updates i came to this site http://www.t-mobile.com/motoupgrade/ Yet when you input your phone number in the pop window, nothing happens, so i went to to motorolas site and downloaded their software update program, and yet another problem, Motorolas software updater checks to see if the phone is under warranty before upadting, mine is not. After about 20 mins of playing around with that program i found a flaw that would let me update the phone without it being under warranty. 3 hours later the phone is done updating, yet after 10 minutes of use the phone started acting up again!!!!.
Some advanced features that higher end phones don't even have; Like
bluetooth data trasnfer between phones, sd card slot, camera zoom, mms
unreliable
battery dies after 2 hours of standby.
plastic screen is loose

6. Really bad..don't buy it.

So, in the beginning, this phone was working fine. I got it for free so it was whatever but, then about 6 months later, it started acting up. i.e. Dialing random numbers, turning the volume up and down, the buttons were worn (which shouldn't happen), and also, when I got this phone, it was the last green one there and they had to dig for it; etc. It was like it have a mind of it's own but, I figured it was just because I dropped it twice. So, I exchanged it for another and was on my second phone. This one worked fine until about another 5 months later. It was doing the same thing as the last one. Soo, I called in a whatnot, saying this shouldn't have happened again. I didn't drop it or anything so again, they sent me another one. This time around, I turned on the phone and as I was entering my contacts, the left side of the screen started to flicker like a flourescent light hen stopped but, the left side of the screen was noticably darker than the right. So, once again, I called in and they ran me through a few tests like turning the power off, reseting, changing the brightness, etc. But, nothing worked and it was still faded. So, they're sending me a new one AGAIN. But now, as of this morning, when I turned my phone on, the screen was totally black although the phone was on. Occasionally, it'll flicker in but, just for a second. It really pisses me off that I'm going to be on my 4th phone soon. Besides the exchange, I think they should send me a totally different phone for free. I don't feel like going through this crap again.
Btw, the color of the phone is lime green and I'm starting to the that maybe the green one's are defective. D:
Long battery life, has a lot of storage space. Not durable at all and all the other complaints I've said.

Looked at a few people's posts and they all seem to have the same problems...I haven't had any of them. Doesn't drop calls, texts fine, It was a free phone with plan so I expected to have to get a new one but after 2 yrs, W490 holds up great--even though I suck and drop it all the time. Only problem is the back cover pops off easy, but also pops back on easy...no biggie. The music player and camera are both good.

This phone is a joke...I have the same prob alot of the others have had with this damn thing....I cant close it or the screen goes white or black....what a joke, for paying so much for the cel bill, and cel's themselves, u think that since so many people have the same damn problem, that they'd recall it and give u a free phone in its place, and from what I gather from the reviews before mine, if i send it back...they send me a BRAND NEW shiny piece of crap...WOOT Can hardly wait!
I can still HEAR the person on the other endI cant read my txt messages, hear v-mail, send texts...or see the caller ID...and EVERYTHING ELSE about it.

10. Add me to the list!

Please save yourself the aggravation and DON'T get this phone. I have had this phone over a year now and I am on my 5th or 6th replacement right now. I have had the same problems that others have posted...Let's see the first time it was the screen, it wouldn't recognize when it was being opened and closed, the next time I got the lovely 444444444 constantly and key pad stopped responding...they sent me one that just lagged ( right out of the box no less!!) so bad it was unuseable...Then it was another but this time it was stuck on 88888888888888....The last time it was the usb port...All of a sudden it wouldn't charge and couldn't use a headset...Now tonight I am on the phone and phone was closed of course...It drops the call, I go to call back and surprise! Yes you have guessed it, no working keypad...Sure it lights up but unless I want to use it as a flashlight it serves no other purpose. Not to mention that on every replacement phone I have received that the battery door doesn't fit properly on one side so it's always partly opened- tmobile doesn't stock those parts and makes you feel like an idiot that isn't properly putting it on right...as if you need special training to snap a battery door on!...Motorola sent me a replacement back but that didn't fit either. I just decided to pick my battles and keep it with the gap in the back. Tmobile has been decent I suppose, and luckily ( if it wasn't unlucky in the 1st place for it to happen) this phone seems to break right before the 90 days for replacement warranty is up but what is the point if I keep on getting another crappy phone? I wish they would be honest with everyone and admit this phone sucks, these are known issues if a majority of people have the same exact ones- and maybe offer a comparable phone for a replacement. At least they waived the shipped on it for me this time. It's just an inconvenience to be without a phone until the new one arrives, only to not know when that one is going to decide to break!! Buyer beware!!
Never fails to break at the worst times ( right before weekend and holiday weekends)
I haven't seem to have gotten one that worked more than 2 months straight!!
