Many features on this phone I love. I love the sound and I have really sensitive hearing, so this is a winner in this dept. I'm figuring out it's particular texting style, can't say that I love it but I suppose I'll get used to it.
One thing I hate...the front screen does not indicate that that you have a missed call or text message after a few seconds. I have to keep hitting the side buttons...grrrrrrr.

It's a BIG phone...isn't small enough to fit in pocket comfortably. Plus when you try to access the internet the screen goes black after 20 seconds. The timeout delay stinks. Text messaging is difficult because the keys are stiff...maybe that will get better...I'm not a happy camper!!

I was very disappointed in the display which times out after 20 seconds. I bought the case from tmobile designed for this phone and you can't even get the phone out when it rings. But the biggest problem is the display...try to sign onto the web and it goes black before you are there...this wouldn't be my first choice of phones. I should have gone to the store instead of buying online but it was an upgrade. I like my old Samsung better.

I received my phone yesterday and it's okay except for the display timeout which is only 20 seconds. So while you're trying to go on the web the screen keeps going black plus the keys are very stiff and its hard to text message. This was an upgrade from Tmobile so I guess I am stuck with it. Wouldn't have bought it if I knew about the display timeout. That is my biggest complaint.

The back of my phone the part that protects the battery kept falling off and this weekend I finally lost it. I think I just got a defective phone but the real test is if T-Mobile will actually help e out with me problem or if I will be forced to purchase a full priced new phone, my W490 was an upgrade.

i got my w490 about a week ago it is the best phone ive had yet. its not as costumazable as some phones and thats what im all about but at already has a sleek and deadly vibe. to me it looks like a perfect midium between the razar and krazar i did have the v3 for awhile and liked it alot but it was slower and not shinny lol but my dad just got the v3i and wants to trade but i will never its easy to download music but only plays mp3 and that is it but if anyone knows a way around it email me at chefandre93@aol.com all of my song turned to wma becuase of my stero which automaticly changed them and i was so pissed i dont want to pay for a convertor it is the best phone ever it has the best camerea quality and sound quality ive heard yet also im a phone adict everytime i go to them mall with friends i run to the phone store to check out the new phone but ever since ive had my w490 ive slowed way dow on the addiction but have any of you seen the sidekick lx is really cool the back feels like leather once again please email me with advice on the mp3 files and thank you

68. Great Phone

I replaced my Razr V3 with the W490 and am very pleased. The W490 has more features and Crystal Talk. The call clarity is the best I've come across yet. The only problem I have had is that without the memory card the MP3 player only holds five songs. Not very impressive. However the playback options are good. As far as the style, the thinner feel is nice and it does not feel like you're losing durability. Overall, I feel it's a great value. If you are looking for a new phone, this one's a winner!

just got this upgrade with tmobile. extremely pleased. first and foremost a great quality phone - its primary purpose after all. Good volume/clarity - hearing and being heard.
i just got a 2 GB microSD from Amazon for $24. works like a charm. You DON'T need to buy the Motorola software to copy files to it, just regular USB cable. I'd never used microSD before so was concerned if I loaded files the phone wouldn't find them but the card shipped with standard \mobile folder and under that \pictures, \audio, \video. I also used bluetooth for the first time (I'm an old baby boomer). Very easy and security can be modified as applicable - example, only request 'grant access' first time file is being copied not every time. Slooooooooooow, USB cable is faster obviously.
Read another review complaining about non-intuitive mp3 player buried in the menus. Agree, not the best access BUT, the soft keys on the phone are completely customizable (left, right, up, down, leftsoft, rightsoft) which is another great feature. I programmed one of mine directly to Digital Audio Player so I can start the mp3 player with one click. Once you get there.....well....takes about a minute to "load music" I only have about 200 songs/10 albums so far. Seems like it's rebuilding the index each time, not sure. But hey, a bonus with the phone and very adequate quality. Perhaps a firmware enhancement down the road to improve it. My ipod nano is my primary player but there are days I forget to take it to work (I walk/jog at lunch) and now I have a backup.
All in all a great phone. Very sturdily built (except plastic battery cover), elegant design, great phone capabilities, and lots of other features if you're interested - games, etc. which I have no interest in. I did load some digi pictures and was easily able to cycle thru them and set any of them to wallpaper/screensaver.
Not directly related to the phone but I can't believe how far storage has come in recent years. The microSD cards are tiny - 2 GB on this sliver of a device. My first Zenith PC had a 20 MB hard drive and I thought I'd arrived!
