1. Terrible Phone

25 Jul 2009 by amazinassasin

40%4out of 10

Lets see, where should I start?  The touch screen is terrible compared to other touch screen phones.  Phones like the Dare and Voyager you actually have to press the screen to get it to work.  The Krave however you do not.  The Krave's touch screen is heat sensitive and not touch sensitive.  So putting your finger close to the screen without touching can actually press buttons.  Its very annoying when texting.

This phone is very bad for texting on.  I text a lot and want to be able to text fast but this phone does not let you.  Half the time when I use this phone, the response time is incredibly slow.  I have to wait half a second from the time that i press the screen and when the letter appers in the message.  Also, I am having alignmnent problems.  I will press the letter I want to press and the one under it or beside it or above it will get ressed.  Very annoying and frustrating.

This phone has many software glitches.  It constantly freezes when I'm in the middle of a text mesage.  I have to close the cover and start over.

If you like listening to your music while texting or messing around with your phone, dont get this phone.  As soon as you exit out of the Music Player the music stops;  unlike the Dare and other phones.

This phone has little features.  You cannot edit the pictures you take.  You cannot change the setting of the camera or camcorder.  There is no stopwatch on this phone.  If you like customizing your phone, this phone is not for you.  The only things you can change are the wallpaper and the banner.  There are no display themes you can choose from.

The clear cover on this phone is pointless.  The only things you can do from it are play music, watch tv, view your pictures, or use verizon navigator.  You can only view messages from the front screen if you get a message while the cover is down and you view it without lifting the cover up.

The speakers are high quality.

The web browser is pretty functional.  Very easy to use.

This phone vibrates a little everytimeyou use the touch screen and gets annoying after a while.  Its too bad you cant change this setting.

The look of this phone is pretty good but I would trade looks for functionality and performance anyday.

And be sure to lock the phone because buttons will get pressed in your pocket.  Mobile tv gets activated a lot.

Design
Web Browser
Speakers
Can't do other things while listening to music
Respnse time
Texting
Cant change vibrate settings for when the screen gets touched
Clear cover
Barely any features
Little customization options
Freezes a lot
touch screen is too sensitive and cant change sensitivity level

2. Learn your Krave and it will earn your trust

6 Jul 2009 by Albiewan

I have had the Krave for 8 months now and have mastered all the little subtle things it has to offer.  Motorola has been diligent with its software/firmware upgrades and has obviously listened to the minor complaints.  This little phone is packed with features and will reward you if you take the time to discover what makes it work best.  This is especially true of the html browser.  At first it seems annoying to move that weird cursor around but after a while it makes sense because fingers are not reliable and the big circle cursor makes sure you get the link you want.  Pages load quickly and there are options to load favorites easily.   True it is not for heavy texting but for casual texting it is literally fun to use.  The predictive text feature is intelligent.  Sound quality is among the best, if not the best I've ever heard.  My Krave was accidentally submerged in lake water for several seconds (a pier broke and I literally fell in the lake) and appeared to have died.  It dried out within an hour and slowly came back to full use!  Now that is amazing!  The tactile vibration, while slight, is just enough to let you know that what you have touched is what you will get.  I have discovered that the extended life battery will not give you that much more than the normal battery and is not worth the expense or the added bulk.  It doesn't have wifi but unless you really need it and are willing to plunk out more $$ for the data plan then don't get this phone.  I have been in the cellular world since the days of the bag phones and have had many cell phones but I would rate the Krave as among the best I've ever had the pleasure to use and rely upon.  Remember, take the time to get used to this phone and you won't be disappointed.  The Krave will win you over if you have the patience to learn the technology that makes this one amazing cell phone.

packed with features, excellent sound quality, great speakerphone, excellent tactile touch screen, cursor technology, excellent design and feel, timely upgrades, solid interior circuitry, and more!
The secret to the Krave is not spelled out in any manuals...it must be discovered by the user, but it is rewarding in the end.

3. Good Phone

3 Jun 2009 by paul lee

83.3%8.3out of 10

I was a little wary when getting this phone because of all the negative reviews, but I still bought it. Now I am glad I did. The screen is very crisp and excellent. The touchscreen is also very sensitive and scrolling is a breeze. I like the interface and the cover touch screen is also responsive. Sound quality is great; I use the Krave as my mp3 player now (it has a 3.5mm headphone jack). I also like that it has a microsd memory card slot. The Krave is good for watching movies too, but it lags sometimes on fast parts and action scenes. The camera and camcorder arent very great, but I dont take a lot of pics and videos anyway. Texting is hard on this phone, however. DO NOT get this phone if you are a heavy texter. Sometimes the touchscreen works well when texting but sometimes it does not. I would press the letter "i" but get "u". Its not a good texting phone. The animations on the phone are a bit slow and laggy, but I don't really mind. Oh yeah, did I mention how cool it looks? everybody I showed my phone to likes it alot. Overall, its a really good touchscreen phone, but do not get it if you are a heavy texter.

-good sound quality
-good movie quality (but lags sometimes)
-overall good touchscreen
-cool design
-cover flip is cool
-3.5 mm headjack
-microsd memory card slot
-cool interface
-sleek and small
-not good for texting
-animations are a bit laggy
-camera lacks features
-not so good camera and camcorder
-touchscreen can lag sometimes
-movies lag sometimes

4. Impressive Phone . . . as in talking device

20 Apr 2009 by CodeBlue12

86.7%8.7out of 10

The touchscreen trend finally got to me and so I made the jump and went through two LG Versa's in under two weeks before giving up and trying the Krave.  In short, the Krave does exactly what I need it to! The interface of the Krave is not as ingenious as the Versa, but it's simple to use and understand.  The Krave's connection to Bluetooth is flawless and the phone auto-connects to my car's pre-installed system without fail.  That is something I could never accomplish with the Versa, and believe me I tried everything.  The call quality on the Krave is quite extraordinary.  The only complaint I should mention is that the hinge of the flip does make a subtle creaking sound when I press the opened phone against my head. That took some getting used to, and I would sympathize with anyone who found that annoying.  But, the earpiece is so crystal clear that I can forgive that minor flaw.  The speakerphone is literally the best I've ever used on a cellphone, with a rich and solid tone (loud sounds do not rattle the casing).  I do wish the speaker could be engaged before making a call, but I'll glady put up with that minor inconvenience when the sound is this loud and crystal clear.  I received my Krave April 16th and was pleasantly surprised to find that Motorola & Verizon have updated the interface to allow for speed dials!  They have also added a slide lock on the main screen to prevent unintentional dialing during calls, and the user now has the option of allowing the flip to activate the main menu automatically.  Now, I will admit the Versa was more stylish, user-friendly and just plain fun.  But, the Versa's screen would lock down if I didn't acknowledge missed calls within a couple of minutes. And the Versa ended far too many calls all by itself.  Texting was a breeze on the Versa and I tried very hard to put up with the glitches, but above all else . . . shouldn't a phone allow you decide when to end your own calls? The Krave has not ended a single call by mistake.  I use my phone primarily for talking and the Versa just didnt' work as well as the Krave does when it comes to performing as an actual phone.  What it comes down to is that Motorola makes a quality communication device that simply performs as I expected!  I would definitely suggest the Krave to anyone who needs a usable touchscreen phone, instead of just another fancy new toy gadget. Way to go Motorola!

Superior call quality
Speakerphone clarity
Flawless Bluetooth connectivity
Flip's Hinge Creaks
Speaker can't be engaged before making a call.

I've had this phone for about a month now, and while it is certainly a lot "cooler" than my old Chocolate, it is a lot less reliable.  It obviously looks fantastic (whenever I pull it out, people always remark on how cool the clear flip is) and the touch screen is responsive most of the time, but lately it has been freezing a LOT.  Sometimes if I flip the clear screen up, the screen underneath doesn't change and I have to turn the phone off and then back on to unfreeze it.  Texting also freezes up often, and though it usually becomes unfrozen within a moment or two, this can be annoying if you're trying to text in a hurry.  I actually don't know why people complain about the clear flip when using the QWERTY keyboard, I have tiny hands and I have absolutely no problem with it.  At first I found texting to be nearly impossible, but I've gotten used to it and now it's a breeze.  The camera is actually a step down from my old phone's, there are literally no special effects you can use, you can't even zoom in on a picture.  However, you can take a pictue with flip open or closed, and the camera adjusts to whether you have the phone upright or tilted, which is very cool. The display settings leave something to be desired; there is practically no wiggle room in customizing your settings. But all in all, the call quality is good, the battery life is excellent, and messaging is fine.

-Looks amazing
-Good call quality
-QWERTY keyboard
-Responsive touch
-Decent camera
-Freezes often

6. Not bad - but some definite g-1 glitches

2 Apr 2009 by RK

63.3%6.3out of 10

I'll keep it short.  Cool factor +++.  Usability?  Close, but quite. The touch screen is fun and the accelerometer is a nice touch - texts enter in classic mode when upright, with a full qwerty keyboard appearing when held sideways.  With no speed dial (how the heck did they forget such a basic feature?) you have 2 options (1) try voice recognition & (2) put your favorite 3 people in the ICE tab.  Voice recog was spotty when it was needed, so I went to option 2. Touch screen is geat at the center, only OK near the edges.  Small screen makes the touch screen a joke on certain games - selecting the square you want in Scrabble is (at best) a comedy and Command anc Conquer inside 3" confirms that size does matter for usability.  You also need to lock the touch-through cover in almost all situations, or suffer unwanted issues.  The verdict - Glad I got it, but hope they work the kinks out for Gen-2.

Cool, fun
nice touch with accelerometer
No speed dial
Voice recognition needs vast improvement
Screen size is a real limitation
Touch seems far less sensitive at the edges

7. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! should have trusted my instincts

30 Mar 2009 by mags

40%4out of 10

i switched to verizon in early 07 from over 5 years of nextel(sprint), which is the WORST service of all time and has ONLY motorola phones, which everyone agrees anyway are pieces of crap. my first verizon phone was the alias, which was AWESOME and served me well for 2 years! this is what i got for my upgrade---def should have trusted my instincts on not getting a motorola phone, waste of 200 bucks n so frustrating. it's my third one in about 3 months---shuts itself off, doesn't hold a charge, freezes, storage feautures difficult to figure out, texting is RIDICULOUSLY complicated (system wise not because of the screen)---the touch screen is actually nicely responsive, and i have to give it the classic motorola durability (all of my motorola phones over the years have survived countless throws across the room without scratches...), and the camera is very high quality although there is no flash or sfx...and unless you lock the phone it will go on speakerphone from your pocket because you can use the touch screen through the flip cover thing (cool feature, but annoying as well); also while you're on a call it will sporadically turn the backlight on and off, and on business calls/automated calls etc when you need to use the keypad during the call---UGHH. there is alot i could say---the design is cool and the idea is nifty, but all in all, NO, NO, NO!!!! do not waste your time and money!!! and i can't get another model for 2 more years under 500 bucks apparently grrrrrrrrr

good camera quality
mega durable
nice level of touch screen
doesn't hold a charge
shuts itself off
freezes
no camera flash/sfx
little to no media storage (hard even with a memory card!)
texting system impossible
very basic audio media features (can't set sounds as tones/send as msg, etc)
contacts/msgs etc difficult to navigate

9. Best Phone I Have Ever Used....

26 Feb 2009 by Joshua

86.7%8.7out of 10

I agree with most of the reviews. I do not like the texting feature, as my fingers always seem to touch the wrong button. I did find a solution for this, if you press just a little bit harder and hold your finger on the letter a little longer too. I did notice the clear button on the texting button freezes up sometimes. This problem is nothing major. I believe the battery life is really good for a touch screen. The main ideal most people have to realize is the phone uses more power. The Krave is not an old flip phone. Who cares what companes advertise on television about battery life. When did anyone start believing television anyway? Best word of advice to anyone who gets this phone: don't even try to read the manual just figure everything out on your own.

Everything you would want in a phone.
Texting is hard, clear button for texting freezes sometimes.

10. Krave's almost there

7 Feb 2009 by Eugene

80%8out of 10

I've had the KRAVE about two weeks now and like any phone, you're never going to find a phone that you're 100% satistifed with.  All the review written in this blog are fair about the KRAVE.  It is lightweight, slim, has a nice feel in your hand, seems sturdy, good sound quality, camera is ok, and the touch screen features are slick.  Texting isn't easy and sometimes my fingers miss the letters.  You definitely can't be moving and text at the same time - you literally can't drive and text at the same time which is a good thing.  I think I figured out that motorola phone tools will is not compatible with this phone yet - word is, that an upgrade to make it compatible may be coming.  So far, nice phone, not perfect, and a lot better as a phone than my PocketPC; although, there is not comparison if you're you're looking for a PDA type data manager.  The KRAVE doesn't manage data very well and YES there is NO speed dialing...use voice activiation instead, works great.  The battery life is ok for me - I'm not trying to use it as a replacement for my house phone so I don't get so bent-out-of-shape if I have to plug it in nightly.  There is a better battery available for this phone with the larger back case from motorola.  Easy to get used to, easy to navgate through menus, and CNET review is pretty good if you get to watch it.  Not a bad phone so I think I'll keep it and just wait for the next best one to get my attention.  Not perfect, but good equipment and capability.

Lightweight, slim, good sound, great voice activation, touch screen is nice, screen color and contrast is awesome!
No speed dialing, not compatible with Phone Tools 5.0, speed texting - not a chance.
