this is a copy of what i sent to VZ cust service today:

My wife and I purchased the motorola krave when we began our service with verizon. She has not had a problem with her phone, but I cannot operate them. I attempt to touch one part of the screen, and other parts light up. I have video-recorded this incident at least twice.

http://uploading.com/files/73m478fc/1130090941a.3g2/

I brought the faulty phone back, and they gave me a new one. That phone had the same problem, so I brought it back.  Again, it was replaced with the same phone, with the same problem. Yesterday I went to the store on Hamner in Norco, CA, and insisted that i not be given a replacement krave. Manager JODIE refused, and said I had to do that within the first thirty days. I understand that sometimes new products dont turn out like u want them to, but trying to stick the customer with the cost is pretty low. I gave the faulty product more than enough chances, and to insist that i somehow burned up MY opportunity to replace it is rediculous. What really happened is I was railroaded away from replacement options long enough to make vzon an excuse to make me keep it. Not acceptable. There was no reasoning with the extremely unhelpful 'manager', named JODIE at Norco, so I took the only option that would allow me to continue to use my subscribed service, and I bought a new phone. Of course she wouldnt give me that without making me sign a new service agreement. Also, not acceptable.  I expect verizon to credit me the full purchase price including tax for the replacement i had to PURCHASE. Also the terms of my contract should be reset to their original parameters.  Any result other than this falls short of satisfactory, which would be a shame, since other than this hardware issue, I am basically satisfied with the service.

im posting this everywhere i can to help inform consumers of this scam.

the few physical buttons it has work.
the camera works.
i like the insertable micro SD memory.
the sliding lock switch is a much better feature than the ones that unlock by pressing the most protruding and prominent button on the thing. (more pocket calls=more money for VZ)
the touchscreen works about half the time
the viewscreen goes black and doesnt respond to touch when in a call, ie no way to screen or even blindly accept call waiting.
the feature that allowed me to use my own mp3s as ringtones has been phased out to promote the sale of proprietary ringtones
buy it ur stuck with it, cuz VZ hates you.

Terrible Phone

Lets see, where should I start?  The touch screen is terrible compared to other touch screen phones.  Phones like the Dare and Voyager you actually have to press the screen to get it to work.  The Krave however you do not.  The Krave's touch screen is heat sensitive and not touch sensitive.  So putting your finger close to the screen without touching can actually press buttons.  Its very annoying when texting.

This phone is very bad for texting on.  I text a lot and want to be able to text fast but this phone does not let you.  Half the time when I use this phone, the response time is incredibly slow.  I have to wait half a second from the time that i press the screen and when the letter appers in the message.  Also, I am having alignmnent problems.  I will press the letter I want to press and the one under it or beside it or above it will get ressed.  Very annoying and frustrating.

This phone has many software glitches.  It constantly freezes when I'm in the middle of a text mesage.  I have to close the cover and start over.

If you like listening to your music while texting or messing around with your phone, dont get this phone.  As soon as you exit out of the Music Player the music stops;  unlike the Dare and other phones.

This phone has little features.  You cannot edit the pictures you take.  You cannot change the setting of the camera or camcorder.  There is no stopwatch on this phone.  If you like customizing your phone, this phone is not for you.  The only things you can change are the wallpaper and the banner.  There are no display themes you can choose from.

The clear cover on this phone is pointless.  The only things you can do from it are play music, watch tv, view your pictures, or use verizon navigator.  You can only view messages from the front screen if you get a message while the cover is down and you view it without lifting the cover up.

The speakers are high quality.

The web browser is pretty functional.  Very easy to use.

This phone vibrates a little everytimeyou use the touch screen and gets annoying after a while.  Its too bad you cant change this setting.

The look of this phone is pretty good but I would trade looks for functionality and performance anyday.

And be sure to lock the phone because buttons will get pressed in your pocket.  Mobile tv gets activated a lot.

Design
Web Browser
Speakers
Can't do other things while listening to music
Respnse time
Texting
Cant change vibrate settings for when the screen gets touched
Clear cover
Barely any features
Little customization options
Freezes a lot
touch screen is too sensitive and cant change sensitivity level

Learn your Krave and it will earn your trust

6 Jul 2009 Albiewan

9.3 out of 10

I have had the Krave for 8 months now and have mastered all the little subtle things it has to offer.  Motorola has been diligent with its software/firmware upgrades and has obviously listened to the minor complaints.  This little phone is packed with features and will reward you if you take the time to discover what makes it work best.  This is especially true of the html browser.  At first it seems annoying to move that weird cursor around but after a while it makes sense because fingers are not reliable and the big circle cursor makes sure you get the link you want.  Pages load quickly and there are options to load favorites easily.   True it is not for heavy texting but for casual texting it is literally fun to use.  The predictive text feature is intelligent.  Sound quality is among the best, if not the best I've ever heard.  My Krave was accidentally submerged in lake water for several seconds (a pier broke and I literally fell in the lake) and appeared to have died.  It dried out within an hour and slowly came back to full use!  Now that is amazing!  The tactile vibration, while slight, is just enough to let you know that what you have touched is what you will get.  I have discovered that the extended life battery will not give you that much more than the normal battery and is not worth the expense or the added bulk.  It doesn't have wifi but unless you really need it and are willing to plunk out more $$ for the data plan then don't get this phone.  I have been in the cellular world since the days of the bag phones and have had many cell phones but I would rate the Krave as among the best I've ever had the pleasure to use and rely upon.  Remember, take the time to get used to this phone and you won't be disappointed.  The Krave will win you over if you have the patience to learn the technology that makes this one amazing cell phone.

packed with features, excellent sound quality, great speakerphone, excellent tactile touch screen, cursor technology, excellent design and feel, timely upgrades, solid interior circuitry, and more!
The secret to the Krave is not spelled out in any manuals...it must be discovered by the user, but it is rewarding in the end.
