We have received credible information that the highly anticipated LG Dare VX9700 is expected to be released on-line starting June 26 and in-stores July 3rd. In doing so, Verizon is beating the release of Apple's iPhone 3G by two weeks (July 11th). The Dare has been rumored for months, with small bits on information slowly coming out. This week, a day after Apple's announcement, Verizon announced the Dare, Decoy, and Chocolate 3 models would be out by July.

New spy images of the Dare show the user shortcuts menu, text message screen (multi-tap), and label diagram of the exterior. The diagram shows that there will be a light sensor to detect the amount of the surrounding light and automatically adjust the LCD's brightness to conserve power, as well as a proximity sensor to turn off the LCD when placed near your face during a call. Additional features include a 3.2MP autofocus camera with flash and editing capabilities, VGA video recording, HTML Browser, 3.5mm headset jack, DVD quality video playback from memory card, handwriting recognition, drag and drop contact and photo interface, multitasking, Bluetooth 2.0, accelerometer, EVDO Rev A, microUSB, and microSDHC (8GB).

LG Dare might actually turn out to be an iPhone 3G killer in more ways than one. i know it has a WAY better camera and it can actually video record unlike the ghetto iPhone. haha

idk but the Dare looks pretty darn good to me!

i want to see the iphone get knocked down as much as the next person, but the dare still runs a modified version of the vzw ui and will never compare to the iphone

have any of you actually looked at the VZW UI and the standard LG UI? They're nearly the same, anymore, when compared side-by-side. and the battle over "UI" is becoming ridiculous. The handicaps on a lot of phones are now being implemented by the manufacturer themselves, not the carrier. Besides, AT&T puts their own interface on the phones. Even Vodafone does.

sorry to disappoint you but the dare is pretty much and smaller, keyboardless version of the Voyager, more ever, no Mobile TV. it's a pretty boring phone actually. I am sure you want to know how would I know about a phone that isn't out yet...well....2 hours with it was enough to convince me to scratch it of my list.

Hmm... I've heard the exact opposite from every other person I've spoken to who's spent time with the Dare. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong (it's your opinion after all), I'm just saying that while the Dare may not be the phone for you, you shouldn't try to lead others away from it just because of your personal experience with it.

So far the phone looks sick, my only concern is the price tag on this. I have heard from a few friends who work for verizon that it may cost MORE than the voyager at launch. I am sorry but as cool as the phone is I am not willing to pay 400 for a phone when I still think the iphone is insanely sick, and only going to be $200! Just my opinion.

No way. They're going to do the same thing as sprint did with the instinct (and verizon ended up doing with the voyage) price it to compete with the iPhone.

I don't see any way that this phone is going to go for more the $199. You're going to have to make it up with the plan but the phone is going to be under $200.

You're obviously going to pay more out of contract and I'm not looking forward to what they tell me the price is when I tell them I only want a year contract...

i work for verizon wireless . i heard we will be launching the phone 4th of july so we will probably have a good introductory price for it. its not gonna be $400. it might be $50 more than the voyager but i doubt. VZW is aware of the launch of the new iphone & honestly it will have an impact on us. ( last year it did made an impact but we got 70% of the customers who switched back after 2 to 3 weeks. AT&T just dont work everywhere)

oh i had an opportunity to play with the demo phone. the touch screen works perfectly well. lets face it.. touch screen is not for everybody. it will take time to get used to it. so all of you impulsive buyers out there.. think & play with the phone before you decide to purchase it. because i i know you are gong back to the store blaming the sales rep or the phone for your stupidity.

Lets hope so! I wouldnt mind paying 200 for it. I got to play with a friends who works for verizon, hes got a live working version, the touch is pretty sick, but the size could be a little better. I think I am just too in love with my ipod touch that I want my phone to feel the same way, LOL

Like I said on the other Dare thread... I mentioned this information a couple days ago. I like how Kevin and Dole from Howard Forums got the credit, when I've given good information to Phonearena.com several times on this site before there updates and reliable source information when I have yet to be wrong with information I give here. Interesting.

Comment 4, The only reason the I-Phone2 is $200 is that it will cost $30/a month. That feature on the Dare will only be $15, This phone my guess will launch at $349.99,. - $299.99 After Rebate

Iphone2 = $200, + $30/mo ($30 for Unlimited Data/200TXT)= $920 for 3G Iphone over two year term
LG Dare = $299 + $20/mo (I say $20 = $15 VCast/Unlimited Data and 250 TXT/PIC/VID Plan) = $780 for LG Dare over 2yr term.

So What does the $140 difference get you? Faster internet, More messaging and MMS, Video, 3.2MP Camera. Handwriting recongniztion and the list is on and on.

I doubt this phone will cost alot because there aren't really alot of very cool features other then the 3.2 mega. camera, Handwriting recogniztion, LCD feature, and the light feature. So if I had to take a guess on the price I woulld think maybe 300 dollars, 250 dollars with a mail in rebate.

there is no included txt package in the new plans for AT&T if you get the 3g Iphone. so add an additional $5/month at least.

Of course this phone's plan is cheaper, it is a messaging phone. The iPhone2 is considered a pda now and you have to pay pda data. This phone is of no comparison to the iPhone2. Go to apple.com and see the business solutions and sdk's and you will see that everything about your comparison of the 2 devices is foolish. You would actually do a better job comparing it to the Vu. This phone is nowhere near the league that the iPhone2 is in. You are comparing apples to bananas. As far as faster internet, NOT! Only where VZ has 3g and ATT has EDGE but in the majority of places you go the speeds will be the same depending on the network coverage. ONCE AGAIN you cannot compare a messaging phone to a PDA!

hahaha "Only where VZ has 3g and ATT has EDGE"? That's funny, since VZW's network far surpasses that of ATT's in High Speed coverage area. Especially with their recent acquisition of Alltel, who has 3G in almost all their rural markets, is going to blow that coverage map out of the water!

Though... I do agree with you on the fact of trying to compare a PDA phone to a non-PDA. Not really a comparison to be made, since they're in different ball parks.

Once The Blackberry Thunder comes out... that is when the comparisons will be made. and given Blackberry's superior reputation with smartphones, and the smartphone demographic penetration rate they have (especially when compared with the iPhones lesser penetration rate), coupled with VZW's network... well, it's a hands down winner--factually based.

I come on here just about every day and listen to someone tell us how no phone compares to the iphone, this is simply ridiculous granted the iphone is a sweet phone but most of the credit comes because they were the 1st to promote a different style of phone and quite frankly vzw has better service and no matter what that's what a CELL PHONE is all about getting the iphone on att is like buying a ferrari with a nissan altima engine, when it comes down to it your still gone to get blown away buy a porshce!!! Now everyone is on the iphone2(cause apple realized they fuc#$d up and made the 1st batch without it how can you buy a phone where u can't even change your own battery, dude!!

there is a new application download on for ANY non-pda phone on verizon that has get it now called remosync. its the exact same as having push email on your device with calendar and contact sync. so, that is 1 form of a business solution for those that down want a blackberry/pda type solution. and for god sakes, everyone is making such a huge deal about the fact that the new iPhone is 3G. verizon has had 3g for over 2 years on the majority of their devices. its about freakin time that they released something in 3G. the problem with a "3G" iPhone is the limited spread of 3G in the ATT network. with the launch of the Blackberry Thunder, Verizon is blowing the game wide fricking open. that is an LTE device that is the harbringer of Verizon opening the network to use any device. and with the purchase of the 700 mhz band and the purchase of alltel, Verizon is positioning itself by making strong business decisions to be the go to carrier in the united states. sprint/nextel is currently searching for buyers for their companies, maybe t-mobile's parent company for sprint, nextel will fall on its own, both because of debt issues. s/n customers are porting out at a phenomenal rate and the majority are going to vzw. wow, sorry about the rant.

come on dude! stop fishing! i can download a business app for a razr but that does not make it a PDA. so again, you are trying to compare apples to bananas. also, the thunder is not an LTE device. come on you need to know your info before you post or you run the chance of making yourself look stupid. about the only thing you added deemed good info is that fact that vz's purchase of alltel along with their 700mhz winnings will make it the largest network by far. But since I will never be in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, or any other rural areas other than East Texas, that really does not serve much purpose for me. My provider works well for me everywhere I go and that is neither AT&T or Verizon.

VZ might have better service where you live but that is not the case for everyone else. In the southeast, ATT and VZ are very identical in terms of coverage. Tested them both side by side for 14 days and did not notice a difference. This idea that VZ works best everywhere is just ignorant. When they have 0 for churn, then you come back and post but until then stop it. All carriers have there issues, some more than others.

the thunder is most definately an LTE device. ive already talked with executives about the device and it is an LTE. the chipset is above the current offerings of verizon, its all over the web. look at boygenius report, look at crackberry, engadget, any of the major cell phone bloggers. i wasnt so much saying that purchasing remosync was going to make any phone a PDA, i did how ever say it allows any device to have push email. how can you even consider the iphone successful when you cant send MMS messages? blackberry trumps the iphone in so many ways. look at the widespread use of those devices. go to an airport and compare how many blackberrys you see compared to iphones. the result is staggering.

LTE won't be launched for a few years (not until around 2011 I think) since it hasn't even been fully tested yet. While the Thunder may have the LTE chipset, it will use CDMA just like every other VZW phone. Also, Vodaphone which is also getting the Thunder hasn't even commited to LTE yet.

YOUTUBE comes up super fast on this phone. I got my hands on one the other day for about an hour and it was flawless with the YOUTUBE videos and I love that the screen adjusts depending on if I was holding the phone vertically or horizontally.

That's not necessarily true, actually. While capacitive screens can be better when implemented correctly (something that was definitely not achieved on the Glyde), pressure sensitive screens can be quite responsive as well. People need to realize that technology is advancing all the time, and pressure sensitive screens are improving at a fairly high rate. Let's not just assume that one type of touchscreen will be better than another just because of the technology used. By the way, I'm not saying that the Dare's touchscreen will be as responsive as the iPhone's, but from what I've been told by people who have actually used it, it's absolutely not terrible in any sense of the word.

I saw early images indicating it would have a full QWERTY keyboard in landscape for texting. Hopefully that's still the case because if it's like the picture above that would really suck. Also, the pricetag!?!?! No built in memory either, are you kidding me???

Yes it still has a full QWERTY in landscape mode. If you look at the picture there is an icon to the right that looks like a keyboard, by clicking that you bring up the full QWERTY keyboard.

Even in the picture above you can see that you can switch to how you enter text.

The keyboard button for a full QWERTY, and the pen button for handwritting recognition.

I'm actually pleased to see the T9 layout in there. There are times that a full QWERTY works better, and times that it just becomes a pain.

Not sure how much I'll end up using the handwritting part though. Unless it ends up working without the stylus.

we don't get them in the states. If you want a killer phone then you gotta get your eyes out of the US phone market. I for one have my eye on the Samsung Omnia, that thing looks sweet. This Dare, looks pretty bada$$ too

meh..Verizon will ALWAYS make money A. they price their phones at a premium even they r 3yrs old like the motorola Q9music B. They will always upsell their highest plan networks for those who dont know any better
