Remember the Kickstart? The information about the first BlackBerry clamshell phone is coming in small pieces, but we are trying to keep you informed on every piece of it. It is yet another consumer-friendly smartphone for the young, hip crowd, in addition to the Pearl and Curve.

In contrast to previous information, it is now reported to use the 5.0 version of the OS instead of 4.6 (expected in the Bold). Once opened, it is a standard BlackBerry with SureType keyboard and a QVGA display, but when closed, it will offer (as many clamshell phones do) basic information on the external display, such as notifications for missed calls, new messages, etc.

LOL BB has been in the industry way longer than Apple. It's going to take a lot more than the iPhone to even come close to making Rim nervous. BB is just trying to take another piece of the market and tailor to those that like clam shell phones. Unfortunately the industry is going another direction with Candy Bar/PDA/Touchscreen Devices. This phone will still sell well regardless, because it's a BB.

Some people still believe that the iPhone is an Smartphone. The first lie.
iPhone is a Phone, Apple is Smart. And BBs are Smartphones. Two differents worlds.

And I like clamshell smartphones. (I have in the past a Motorola MPx220)
Wellcome Kickstart, a good option.

while i do have to agree with #2 in some aspects RIM does seem to be scrambling to get something that sets them apart from the rest of the herd, i do not believe it is because of the IPhone, their devices have gotten rather stagnent lately, so i think they are just trying to shake things up a little bit, they settled into a rut and are trying to get themselves out of it

BB's are bland. The screen/font gives me a head-ache.... like typing on a word processor from 1982. Time for an update don't ya think. I don't have an iphone but they are sick, but I will never switch to ATT (I like having service..VZW is da shizznit).

The only reason people talk down on blackberry's is because they don't understand them. I know they are confusing at first glance, but try getting to know the product and THEN you can say you don't like it.

Yeah, I would definitely have to agree with you on that one. I work in the industry and, being used to a Windows PC at home, I hated the BB interface and would only recommend windows based PDAs/Smartphones, even though they constantly have problems, but once I actually tried out a BB it became easy to use and was far better than any other PDA/Smartphone. If you are in the market for an advanced device, GO BLACKBERRY! You will not be disappointed!

Hahaha this guy did all his research by watching instinct commercials. Just wait till you actually use that phone. The 3G iphone is going to run circles around the instinct. While instinct is poking fun at the iphone, 3G iphone is going to sneek up and murder it.
