Many Verizon stores to open early on Friday for launch of DROID

"Many" Verizon Wireless retail stores will open early at 7 or 8 am on Friday for the launch of the Motorola DROID. The highly anticipated Android powered device will be the first to be powered by the new Android 2.0 OS. Big Red and Motorola have been promoting the handset at a level not seen since last year's launch of the BlackBerry Storm. To check when your local store will be opening, it is advised to give them a call. Stores inside shopping malls will be opening at the regular time. Starting on Friday, Verizon will be holding in-store demonstrations on how DROID owners can get the most from the device. The phone will cost $199.99 after a $100 mail-in-rebate (in the form of a debit card) and a two year contract. Also launching Friday is the HTC DROID Eris, a lower priced Android phone powered by the 1.5 build of the OS. The HTC Hero variant is $99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two year contract, as we have already reported.

Check with your local Verizon store and set your alarm clock accordingly. Losing a little sleep is nothing compared to the joys of playing around with your new Motorola DROID.

I have come to the conclusion that "vzwman" once applied for an authorship position with Phonearena.com but was not hired because of straight stupidity and, of course, his beautiful grammar...

Now he just gets pissed at Phonearena because he thinks he deserved the job... Do you really think Phonearena cares that you accuse them of posting late articles? What an idiot!

They're actually not late at all, becuase it was just made official today that they would be opening early... They've also had an ariticle SPECULATING that VZW MAY be open early, but this was just made official today so how is it late?

+1 on vzwman being incredibly annoying...

Yeah, that is if your getting the Droid Eris by HTC... The Droid by Motorola is 299.99 - 100 MIR = 199.99. Highest new every two credit is 100 so looks like youll be paying 199.99 in store, then getting a 100 MIR making it 99.99. Sorry about your luck.

If your definition of late is not the exact time every other site is reporting then you might be right. But if it comes the same half of the day as every other site I really don't see the big deal. Just because they maybe can't pay enough trolls to scour for information as other sites doesn't mean it's a bad site.

actually phonearena.com is never late..perhaps there is confusion on some truthfulness to some articles but phonedog.com is usually the late site..and well slashphone.com I dont even look at anymore
