Live images of the HTC DROID Eris and its Sense UI This article contains unofficial information.

The recent announcement of the Motorola DROID didn’t make you forget about the HTC DROID Eris, right? We really hope it didn’t, since what we have now is a number of live images, revealing probably the second Android-based smartphone for Verizon. Just in case Motorola’s offering doesn’t suit your style (and you don’t feel like shelling out that $200), but still want to be a part of the Android experience, the HTC DROID Eris looks like a decent solution. When is it expected? November 6, of course, that’s not official yet. At what price? According to the rumors, it should cost $99 after rebate. Sounds good to us, even more when you throw that sweet Sense UI into the deal. Anyway, check out these not-that-high-res, but still quite intriguing photos.

Honestly the Droid is OK. From a design standpoint they camera is OK, no customized UI and the kicker for me is the terrible keyboard. My only grip is that it could have had a flash but other then that i think youll be better served with the Eris.

Yeah, the droids keyboard reminds me of an htc device from 5 years ago. Im suprised, almost everyone prefers the Eris over the Droid, I guess a good design trumps better hardware.

The Eris is more my style. I like the Sense Interface than the stock 2.0 interface (and yes I know there are other interfaces you can get for Android.)

I like the design of this phone over the Droid wish this one had a keyboard the keyboard on the droid broke my heart, I know people are saying just use the onscreen one but my thing is if i'm paying for something I wanna use every damn thing on it.

My thing is I'd prefer to have a thinner profile phone if I'm not gonna use the keyboard.

The Droid is a faster Android phones! I have already played with both of them and even though I swear by HTC, I think I will have to go with the Motorola Droid instead. The Processor is a lot faster and it will run Android 2.0!

how much lag is there on the HTC phone compared to the Droid?

Ummm.... the processor is a whopping 22MGz faster... woopie! 550 to 528 is not a deal breaker for me. But honestly, the moto droid looks cool, but my fingers don't like physical keyboards... the Suretype [qw][er][ty] is waaaay easier to use for me and a lot faster for me as well, so the Eris is for me... But the reason VZW is releasing two at the same time is to satisfy a larger chunk of the market that wants android at the same time. Some prefer physical (my wife) and some prefer touch screen (me0. Either way it is a win win for everyone. But the larger, higher res screen is tempting... If only moto made a keyboard-less "DROID" that was thinner and call it the "droid" i may be swayed from my loyalty to HTC.

Aren't these processors from different architectures? It clocks 5% faster but the real-world peformance is leaps and bounds better than that, especially with a dedicated GPU. That's not to say the Eris won't be fine, but the Moto Droid isn't even close in hardware to the Eris.

Wait so the Moto has a designated GPU or the HTC. I know HTC is big on graphics processors to run TouchFLO on the WinMo Phones and Sense UI is TouchFLO for droid. So are you saying the Moto Droid is better hardware or the Eris? Please respond someone who knows b/c I am interested.

I'm probably just going with the Eris as it's a more compact, sleek form that meets my needs. The fact that it's getting updated to 2.0 is a deal setter. I'd be inclined to wait for the HTC Passion but I seriously question whether it's something Verizon is even gonna get. Oh well.

LOL jrcrow79 i would agree with you on the 6800. I had 1 in 2008 before i got an Omnia and i could'nt stand the keyboard. At least it wasnt as cramped and didnt have that stupid directional pad.

Both Droid and Droid Eris may match the iPhone on hardware but no match on Apple Apps 100,000+ and iTune sync.

The whole iPhone thing isn't even an argument any more. With WinMo 6.5 and Android that can run on any manufacturer's hardware, there are already several phones 10 times more capable of well...everything. Oh and about iTunes- music playback has to stop so the phone can let you know you got a freaking text message. The Droid can run 10 or 20 apps at the same time without blinking an eye, and there are already thousands in the Android Market. I guess the sheep who buy iPhones are only capable of comprehending one app at a time.

You are comparing apples to oranges to peaches to pears here... it is an entirely different phone. Don't insult the Android phones by comparing them to apple, windows, palm or RIM and all the different ways to rearrange the comparissons to (4+3+2+1 is 10 different ways). They all do similar things for different people with different needs. I personal prefer windows mobile (rebranded now as Windows Phone) but am tempted by android and Palm's WebOS. I don't care for RIM's blackberries at all, and I am a down right hater of apple waaaaay before PDAs were common and PDA phones existed. Like Doakie said in another topic, "Apple earned my hate." Subsequently, I will never own an iPhone, EVER! To each their own and be happy. If you have an apple computer, buy iTunes and sync with your apple mail, why not buy an iPhone? If you love Gmail, Google Maps, iGoogle, Google Docs, and the 1000 other intuitive and innovative Google products, by all means YOU NEED AN ANDROID PHONE! If you have a Hotmail/Live/MSN email, need to create/edit Microsoft Office Docs, and like Microsoft, BUY A WINDOWS PHONE! They all do great things, and like I said, I prefer windows.
