LG Voyager Review

Large touch screen on the front, QWERTY inside

The Voyager shows a step in the right direction. It combines almost every feature you could want integrated into one device. The external touch screen can be tricky to use some times, however after a while it becomes easier. The web browser displays HTML sites properly, but ...

81. t's OK but better things are coming.

I got it today and have been playing with it. It is definitely NOT a iphone killer. The push to unlock button on the front is very annoying but maybe there is a way to shut it off. My biggest gripes and scrolling though the contact list just works poorly. And the side button does not move the contact list. Either the phone doesn't respond to my finger movement or it selects one when I just wanted to scroll. Maybe the firmware will be improved but my friends iphone works 1000% better. Also moving around on a browser page is very difficult. This is really a warmed over envy. It seems that LG rushed this together when Verizon pushed them to do something like the iphone. LG is a great phone manufacturer so I would think that in 6-12 months they will really have a iphone killer but then again apple is not standing still. Also the plastic holster does not hold the phone firmly as it can fall out very easily. And the leather pouch which holds the phone horizontally is nice but you would never feel the vibrations in that mode. I would say a nice try but no cigar. I will return it in a few days and go back to my 8300.

83. Not Satisfied...

22 Nov 2007 by dissatisfied

84%8.4out of 10

I went to Verizon today to buy the phone and it was sold out unsurprisingly, however I did take the time to use the sample one that they had at the counter and I wasn't too thrilled, mainly with the actual GUI of the phone. The touch screen isn't as sensitive as I thought it would be. You sort of have to press down hard or sometimes several times to make the selection of your choice. In your hands it feels pretty nice, not weighty or jumbo, just right. The inside screen is nice as well and I enjoyed using the keyboard. There was just something about navigating the touch screen that I wasn't at all happy with. It genuinely needs to be more responsive. It's sad that this phone was released post-iphone hype because it's going to suffer from constant comparisons. A comparison that would've happened regardless but will now be even worse because of the whole "iphone killer" hoo haa that went on in the past few months. The fact of the matter is that it's impossible to be unbiased. Even the most loyal Verizon customer will have to admit that they've encountered a SUPERIOR touch screen interface with the iPhone. Since the touch screen phenomenon reached an all new high this year with Apple's technology it's going to be hard for anything else touch screen to face the fire, unless it's as good or better. Essentially it depends on what you're looking for. If you think the Voyager is your answer to the dilemma you faced in wanting an iPhone without changing service providers you may be mistaken. I thought it was for me and I've thought again. It just wasn't what I was looking for, nor does it offer that much under the hood to make me overlook my disatisfaction with the touch interface. All in all I'm still on the fence and haven't decided what I will end up doing. I'm kind of happy it sold out so now I have a little while longer to really make up my mind, if I could have I would have probably bought it today regardless of being unsure and perhaps even regretted it later. For anybody out there looking to buy, just go to the store and use it for yourself. Only you will know what you were looking for in this phone and whether or not it delivers accordingly, for me... it didn't.

Good Luck Folks!

84. MAN OF STEEL

A big mistake most people are having is that they are trying to label it as a "iPhone Killer", which it isn't. What it is, tho,is a HUGE " iPhone Deterrant." The phone could have been a little slimmer in thickness but that just me being petty. Also, the touch capabilties on the web browser needs to be improve, which it most likely will, with software patches...but everything else is excellent. The call quality.the menu navigation, the highspeed connection, the touch pad interface in general,vz navigator, Mobile Tv, 2 megapixel camera ALL Excellent. Given all that, minus the issues mentioned in the begining. The Voyager gets a resounding 9 for Rating from me..Hope this helps some of you out there

86. Iphone vs Voyager

21 Nov 2007 by CT

100%10out of 10

The phones listed in the title are completely different aside from sharing a couple of similar features such as the touch screen and the music capabilities just to new a couple of the more important. Moreover, the iphone is a smartphone; in other words it uses apples os as it's platform. The voyager isn't a samrtphone, because by definition doesn't support a ms mobile or palm mobile os or the like. Therefore, the serve 2 distinct purposes, and are meant for two totally different markets. The voyager is by far one of the most advanced CELL PHONES (not to be confused with smarphone for the reasons mentioned before) currently on the market. However, technology wise both the voyager and the Iphone really bring nothing new to the table, because Palm treos have been out on the market for many years with the capability of touch screen, ms mobile applications, and expandable memory for music. On a side note, the main market for the voyager is for someone, who likes to text, occasionally get on the web through their cell phone, and possibly take pics, and listen to music. The iphone is for someone who wants to be able to sync with their pc, transfer files, etc., for any other purpose aside from it being a status symbol, people would be wasting their money in purchasing it; as it would have features they would probably never use. The main disadvantage is the iphones network, because unlike the voyager, it operates on an edge data network, whihc the spends at max are 120kbps, where as the voyager operates on evdo rev 0 whihc speeds are 500-800 kbps. Therefore, rendering the iphone limited in many aspects.

87. Why are we comparing?

21 Nov 2007 by Dave

80%8out of 10

I don't get it, does the Iphone come in CDMA?? I would have really liked to go with AT&T and get the Iphone but verizon offers me a plan (nationwide + Canada) that AT&T no longer competes with. So now that I have to choose between CDMA phones why are people rating the voyager relative to a GSM phone? Can you people please rate the phone only if you have actually used it so that people like me can get some useful information.

Please rate the phone for it's own features and how they work. Don't rate it relative to a GSM phone

88. OMG THE WAIT!!!!

19 Nov 2007 by DragonBuster

90%9out of 10

I have been waiting for this phone since i first saw it on PhoneArena, thats the end of september!.. i couldnt wait till pre order date and now im waiting for the phone. i think i might even have tears of joy running down my face when i finally receive it!
i've been trying to look for a place to buy a 8gb micro sd memory card tho, i mean..i dont wanna over pay cause it seems like only verizon have the 8gb memory card..anyone know where i can get a 8gb micro sd card cheaper than verizon?
also, since we can upload and play our own songs on the memory card, do u think if we uploaded videos on the card it would work with the phone?? i mean it would be useless to buy a 8gb memory card only for music.. ahhh i just cant wait!!!

89. cool but...

I'm not saying it's an ugly phone or the worst phone, heck if it was for like $100-$150 i would get it. But its not, the pricing is gonna be like $250. I think it's is a rip off for all the features this phone can do. It has a touch screen but it sure as heck isn't as good as the iPhone, and i hate the iPhone. It's practically the same thing as the enV but with an extremely slow, imagine less than dial-up, internet explorer, and a whatever mobile TV. Personally i don't like it because it's not something different, it is a flip phone just like the enV, if they put in more time and made a better design it would have been better, but what could we do. I'm gonna wait for the SCH-U940, it looks like a pretty solid phone and might be better than the Voyager. Just before you buy it or walk out your door to get it just think about what you getting don't just listen to the hype or commercial.

90. IT tech resorce manager

18 Nov 2007 by Jason

92%9.2out of 10

The Voyager is truly all the things the I phone is not. The ability to use this device in any major metropolitan and minor metro city on a broadband network far exceds the iphone 1-g service with att. Although the wi fi capability is nice my job & lifestyle make that a very unatracitve option. The cost of use and upkeep on the Voyger with VZW is a much better option as well. The ability to down load music and applications with expandable memory while on the go frees me from that computer teather as needed by the Iphone. The I phone has a superior interface but it does not win in overall capability and fuctional abilities. And I can also watch my favorite show 24 live. And of coarse I can make a call and be assured it will work
