I work for verizon and I love the 8550, i have had it for a few months and have not had one problem. it is way way better than the 8500 of course, not bashing that one, but it just had a few problems with the sensitivity and battery life. Now that the send and end buttons are actually on the keypad makes it way better and instead of the touch sensitive now its actual a turn wheel..much better. the clear and speaker button are awesome and when you hit the clear button it actually vibrates to let you know you touched it. i love the phone and i recommed it to anyone who wants it.

I've had this phone for a couple months and I really love it, just about everything about it. The only problems I have with it, are sometimes the clear button doesn't respond the first time I touch it. Can be pretty annoying, but I figure its a lot faster than pressing a real button. My other problem is the lack of a flash, I really miss my flash. But Signal strength isn't that bad, as good as my vx8300. The scroll wheel is just amazing, I couldn't imagine another phone without it! I think the pros really out weigh the cons on this phone, and for only 100 bucks you can't beat it.

Overall, a snazzy, stylish little phone. Nice features. Problems: BAD problems with dropped signals for those of us who live out in the boonies and/or are on the road a lot. Also bad: the touch-sensitive face can start moving you along to other screens when you don't really want to go, eg, when you're talking to someone on the phone and your cheek bumps the phone accidentally, next thing you know you've chosen options you didn't even know existed.
Overall, a pretty toy, but I need a tool. Wish I had kept my old phone with better reception.

Just bought the LG VX8500 a week and a half ago. Overall I like the phone. Great feature set. However I do have some problems. Battery life is not as advertised. 15 days on standby?1? Yeah right. Brand new phone battery and i'm lucky if i get 4-5 days with maybe 5 texts and 3 short(5 min or less) calls.
My other big issue is signal strength. I was just upgrading from a moto E815 phone. With my moto, I could get almost full EVDO bars. With the LG, I'm lucky if i get 1(out of four) bars in the 1X signal. To be fair it still makes the calls but I don't have a home phone. I use my cell as my main/only phone and need it to be dialed in at all times while home. The lack in signal strength is a deal breaker.
I will probably be returning mine and trying out the VX8300 instead. Overall its a great phone with great features. If you live in a city with good signal strength then I do not think you'll have much problem with this phone. I would suggest getting the larger battery though, especially if you are going to use this phones full features such as the bluetooth and music player.

The phone is great. I searched for quite some time for a phone and truthfully did not know whether I was going to make the jump to a smart phone because of my business, but with a nice laptop, I don't need to pay 60 extra bucks a month and everything else like size and confusion of the phone. The VX8550 has a superb design, good call quality and is overall just "slick". It does everything you need to do, great to goof around with, and it's carried by Verizon, Expensive service but you get what you pay for with there service. Highly reccomended.

I got this phone last week and just love it. I wanted a simple, useful and functional cell phone and I got more than that with the new chocolate. I love the voice quality, volume, and the speaker option on this phone. The battery life is average but does well. The stand-by time is also pretty good. You can call and answer a call without having to open the slider. I also like the lock option so the phone does not switch itself on inside my purse. Now for the frills- the phone looks great. I got the cherry color and cant help showing it off. The camera takes clear pictures and is hidden and protected behind the slider, which is great. This is not a camera so I didnt expect a 6 or 10 MP quality, and it didnt disappoint me. I love the outside metal scroll - it is pretty cool and easy to use. Overall, I would give it an "A" grade.

30. i love this phone!

So, I had had my old cell phone for about 3 years. It was a small Samsung: it took crappy pictures, the text was too big for the screen, and there were horrible ringtone and wallpaper options. But it was the cheapest of the "nice" phones, so I bought it.
This time around I said, "hey, let's not buy the phone that breaks halfway through your contract and you have to deal with it for a year because you dont want to shell out the cash for a full price phone." So I bought the newest LG chocolate (in black). I didn't realize it at the time, but I bought it on the first day it came out - it was only $99!!! I didn't get the headphone/music pack that comes with it because... i have an iPod. I'm not going to use my phone as an MP3 player. Although, I think it's important to have the OPTION to put music on my phone if I would like to. This makes me feel important.
So overall I am REALLY pleased with the phone. First of all, it looks cool. It's sleek and black... it's thin and it slides. The surface is smooth because the buttons on the top are touch sensitive. When it lights up it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. I didn't own an older chocolate phone, but from what I've heard the button placement on the new one is a lot better. The send and end buttons are easy to hit, the volume is conveniently located right there on the side. There is a headphone jack and some other fancy things that I probably won't ever use (what a waste, huh).
The speaker is loud and clear. There are hundreds of options to customize the phone just the way you want it. The screen is big and colorful. Text messaging is easier with T9 (didn't have it on my old phone). And the best part: I feel much much cooler with my new phone.
Now, I must have been living in the phone camera stoneage - I think the camera is great!!! I dont' care how many megapixels it is or how many options you have to even out the whtie balance and resolution and blah blah blah. It's a phone! Who expects a phone to take award winning photography?? NOT ME! You couldn't even tell what I was taking pictures of on my old phone and you could take two 30 second videos.... you can take a whole HOUR of video with this phone!!
I have found two things that I don't like about this phone... number one: like everyone has said and will keep on saying, it's a huge fingerprint magnet. I have to wipe it off everytime i use to because I'm a little OCD. But no biggie, right? Number two: When you're talking on the phone there is no (at least not that I've been able to find) easy way to turn on the speaker phone. You have to hit unlock and ok and ok and speaker etc, it just goes on forever and by the time you get it on, you've missed half the conversation you were having. I get that this is probably because if the buttons weren't locked, your cheek would hit it... but it's still annoying. Or maybe there is a setting that I can switch that I haven't found yet. We'll have to see about that.
Anyways, overall this is a cool phone! If you're someone who doesn't need a 8000 megapixel phone and 50 gigs of memory etc then you'll be very pleased with the LG VX8550.
