Alltel Wireless will get the GLIMMER by LG, which is an all-touch phone and surely looks good. This one takes the 3.9 x 2 x 0.6 inches slim slider design of the AT&T Shine but instead of 2.2” display and a few keys below, fits 2.8” wide-angle unit with 240x400 pixels resolution! From the images leaked (which are from official LG press sheet) it can be seen that the home screen has the typical for LG shortcuts: menu, calls, messaging and phonebook, but we’ve no idea what the rest of the interface will look like … we hope Alltel won’t disappoint us, and will bring LG’s UI found in phones such as the Viewty, Prada, and the KF700, or at least a user experience somewhat close to theirs. Similar to the latter model, the new phone slides open to reveal standard numeric keypad, for dialing a number or text input.
The LG GLIMMER’s main selling point is the combination of a large touch display (with haptic feedback - vibration) and a very well looking slim slider design, with metal parts. It is a CDMA/EV-DO phone (of course) with a 2-megapixel camera, a microSD slot and Stereo Bluetooth.
Currently, there is no solid information about the release date of the GLIMMER, but the source says it may launch really soon, before the end of March. We will update you with more information ASAP!
no matter what one thinks of the "goat shaft" of a network that is alltel's network, the phone is cdma and both sprint and verizon have an open networking allowing other phones to be used ... keep that in mind
VERIZON HASN'T PASSED THAT OPEN USER AGREEMENT THROUGH YET. I WORK FOR VZW AND THAT WILL BE UPCOMING WITHIN MONTHS TO COME, UNLESS OF COURSE YOU KNOW A HACKER THAT KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING....WHICH WHEN IT COMES TO CELL PHONES...CANT SAY THAT I DO. THE PHONE LOOKS GREAT...BUT IF YOU'VE EVER HAD ALLTEL IN COLORADO WHICH IS A JOKE AND DOESNT EVEN WORK IN MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREAS...NOT EVEN DENVER, THATS JUST DOWNRIGHT RETARDED. THATS MY BEEF WITH ALLTEL. IF YOU DONT HAVE VERIZON IN COLORADO, MY EXPERIENCE IS THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS PISSED OFF AT THEIR SERVICE PROVIDERS. END OF STORY.
Interesting that the Verizon guy says that our service sucks in Denver, considering that in every major market that consumer reports compared both Alltel and Verizon, Alltel was the preferred carrier 68% of the time, an was ranked either 1st or second in all submarkets surveyed. From where do you draw your facts. We dont have to be in NYC, we're been kicking your ass for years, to the tune that we haven't heard all that buyout foolishness either. Or was it that you couldnt afford the $71.50 that TPG paid for us considering your stock was less than half of that. WOW!!
got the glimmer yesterday. awesome.best phone i've ever had. touch screen functions are pretty tight. scrolling down contacts can be a pain but all in all a great phone

why don't you just type in the first letter of the name on the keypad?
I have ued my Alltel phone all over ohio. I have taken it with me to NYC, Denver, all over Florida, Cali, Indiana and AZ. Never had an issue in any of those places. I had done the same with ATT and VZW but had issues with both. I will not even go down the path of my expirience with Sprint.
I was wondering if anyone knows if the glimmer would come to Verizon or if the new Open Handset thing (whatever it is) means that you can bring this phone over to Verizon.
