LG CU500 - new slim global 3G clamshell for Cingular

The LG CU500 has been rumored for a long time, as its model number leaked in Cingular's press release together with Nokia 6282, but since then, there was no new information about it. Just today, here are the first real images of the phone, thanks to the swiftbmx at howard-forums – CU500 is a slim clamshell with internal antenna, a 1.3-megapixel swiveling camera in the hinge and music dedicated keys on the front cover.

The CU500 was also approved by FCC a couple of days ago, but most pages are still unavailable and do not show any information, except it is a quad-band GSM/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) and tri-band UMTS (WCDMA) (850/1900/2100), which would turn it into global “world” 3G phone. According to some rumors though, the supported UMTS bands are only the two US ones (850 and 1900) and support for Cingular's HSDPA high speed data network up to 1.8Mbps.

The swiveling camera eliminates the need of a secondary one for video calling, which is a main feature of all 3G-capable phones and the internal display is a 2.0" QCIF unit. The branding on the phone clearly shows that it is targeted for Cingular, and we expect it to launch soon.
