Inventec Mercury – GSM Pocket PC Phone with GPS, Wi-Fi and QWERTY

Microsoft Windows Mobile for Pocket PC has been one of the most powerful and widely used operating systems for high-end mobile phones. Such phones come with advanced features like touch-displays, QWERTY keyboards, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS. FCC documents just reveal information on new Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone, produced by Inventec (a Taiwanese manufacturer), and named Mercury. The device is a GSM phone with 850 and 1900 Mhz support.

On its front it has 2.6” TFT QVGA 320x240 touch display and full QWERTY keyboard for text input. The phone also has stylus for navigation or writing on the touch-display. The manual of the device reveals that it supports various connections types like IrDA, Bluetooth, USB, and Wi-Fi. The memory of the phone is expanded through miniSD memory cards. We also noticed GPS  in the documents, so the Mercury will probably feature GPS navigation as well.

As other Pocket PC Phones running on Windows Mobile OS, the Mercury features mobile versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint office applications. There is also pocket version of Internet Explorer for browsing the internet and Pocket MSN instant messenger.

The FCC documents don't reveal any information on carrier-availability of the Inventec Mercury, but as it is a dual-band GSM phone, it could be carried by either Cingular or T-Mobile. Still there is nothing official on the device availability.
