Hands-on with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson has been bringing Symbian smartphones to the market for years, along with their own brand of multimedia devices, but the Xperia X1 is their first foray into the Windows Mobile realm.  The side-sliding X1 features WinMo 6.1, but more importantly sports a new panel interface developed by SE.  Like HTC's TouchFLO 3D, the panel interface is designed to make the Windows experience easier for the user, but is not as encompasing as TF3D.  Images and videos look downright wonderful on the 3", WVGA display.

The X1 is a quad-band GSM device with market-specific 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS.  Despite the full QWERTY and larger display, the device is only slightly larger than HTC's Touch Diamond.  It's metal casing adds to the hefty but solid feel, and the keyboard slide mechanism feels fantastic.  The slide is actually rounded, meaning the keyboard is slightly concave and the screen is facing you at an upwards angle.  This is a great design touch and we are impressed with the keyboard's usability.  Other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, 528HMz processor with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM with a hardware 3D graphics accelerator.

Look for our full review on the Xperia X1 soon!

I find it funny that the XPERIA X1 has full signal, I'm guessing on at&t, but that Sprint Touch Pro has none. Way to go Sprint! You just got shown up again.

I would have bought the X1 if it was like $300. But $700 is just a ridiculous price for USA.
