T-Mobile MDA Review

also known as HTC Wizard , i-mate K-JAM , Cingular 8125

The MDA felt great throughout the testing process. It didn't take long to get used to the size, especially considering that it's smaller than most PDA phones. The setup was beautiful and the only real complaint is the necessity for the constant use of the stylus. But that's something that could be expected from a device like this and is not really a huge problem. In all other areas it was near perfect, and was a worthy competitor to any Treo or Blackberry. If multitasking is a priority, then the MDA is pretty much the only device on the American market that's affordable enough and sophisticated enough to handle the job. It's a step closer to the perfect hybrid device (PDA, phone, MP3 player, digicam in one), and is a bright promise for things to come. Bundled with T-Mobile's affordable voice and data plans, they have a winner on their hands and they know it

21. Cingular 8125

I have used the 8125 now for 4mo's and I am WELL pleased with the unit. The battery holds up about 3 days with some gaming (about 1-2 hrs per day total)and making 3-4 15 minute calls per day. I have found that the biggest killers to battery life are having the backlight past midway, and using the wireless lan. as for performance, I was worried at the start, because the processor is only 195mhz, well, I don't know what tweaks the omap or HTC has done, but it does run full screen video at about VCD quality, I have a friend that has the 6600 from verizon and that has double the processor speed and mine looks far better, he's not happy. I am putting video on it at 320kbps ppc resolution @320x240. However, setting up the wireless lan was a bi_ch, no guide or help find I could for that, required a uber-IT-jedi master to get right.

22. Great PDA phone!!!

I've had my 8125 for 3 weeks now and it is the best tech tool/toy/gadget I've come across in years.

My only issue with the phone are the "tinnie" sounding external speakers; internal sound w/headphone is amazing.

23. Great Device

I went into the local T-Mobile store to gert a sidekick 2. As I was waiting for the store rep to help me I came across the T-Mobile MDA. I noticed this phone was alot nicer than the Sidekick 2 and I liked the features it had on it. So I went with it. Now I have had it for 21 days now and am very pleased with it. Just wish it came with a mini SD with it. If your looking for a good phone this is something you may wanna look into getting. Where can I get some twicks for this phone.

25. tmobile mda

had my doubts at first... have had it now a week applied a few apps and tweaked the reg. most of my grips are subdued. but i havent yet decided to fully let go my n6681. i cant take a pic of my moving 12 mo old. i like i can that i can turn G wifi on if i want. not sure i will tho. screen is nice. i wish it had 262k colors like my nokia. it taps well. keyboard led is blue which i find hard to read at times. i look forward to doing other performance tweaks once i get the sd card.
hopefully some good games come out with this device in mind.
streaming music is eeh.... unless your using a wap site, it may buffer often. i use epitonic.com it plays well most of the time. it buffers for several seconds and im right under a tower. so use mp3's.
downloading tho is mighty quick while on a edge network (most of the usa is) and 2007 3g hopefully.

so i like it. get it now, right now! with a 2 yr agreement -14 day trial period!- it will be cheaper i think.

26. Great PDA

I got this PDA 3 weeks ago, and all I have to say is that it's great. It literally is a pocket PC. The WiFi feature is awesome. It also works great if you get a MiniSD card for additional memory/storage for music/pictures or other media.

Overall device is very good, but it is underpowed (CPU wise).
The device crashed when photos are taking using the 1MP with the shutter sound enabled.
I'll save you from a mini-rant on the problems with Pocket IE, as that is not a problem with the device, but Windows Mobile.
The quality of the of the pictures are poor. Even on SuperFine or BMP modes. It also takes a second from hitting the take-picture button to take the picture. So I have taking lots of photos of blurred stuff.
The keyboad is great. A 39 key job, 10 by 4 with the space 2 keys wide. It is very comfortable to use, and is usable standing up on the Tube. It also glows blue, but I can not change the timeout.
It should support a External Keyboard Input Mode. But does not, so the on screen keyboard steals half my screen when I enter a text field.
Memory, the specs say 128MB ROM, however the memory applet says 47, of which you can use 30ish. RAM wise specs claim 64. Of which the memory applet says 44, of which you can use 25ish. RAM I can put down to VRAM. But the ROM is odd.
This device should be better than it is. T-Mobile puts this as a mid-range device, but the device below it sports a 400MHz processor.
It is spankingly new, so why no 3G?

30. Pocket Power with a Punch

This phone I just recently purchased and so far I have been extremely impressed. It's internet connection is flawless, but be careful, because its processor will not allow for too many programs to run at once. You risk the phone shutting off. But I agree with Ebert on this one and give it two thumbs up.
