HTC Touch Diamond unveiled

There was a lot of commotion about what phones will be released today, but the only one that saw daylight is the HTC Touch Diamond. The device received an upgraded 3D version of the TouchFLO interface, which provides animated access to contacts, weather information and many other features.

The phone looks good to say the least, its front end is sleek with the 2.8” VGA screen taking the most of it. The back one is designed to resemble a diamond which looks similar to Nokia Prism devices though. By looking at the photos, you would never know that the Diamond is actually smaller than the Touch, which makes it one of the lightest and smallest WM Professional devices.

The phone operates on GSM 900/1800/1900, with US version soon to follow. Hardware-wise, the processor is Qualcomm MSM7201 clocked at 528 MHz, which is more than enough for most users. As far as memory goes, you are pretty much covered with whooping 192 MB of ram available and 4 GB of internal storage, unfortunately heavy users may prefer microSDHC slot instead of the internal storage. The integrated accelerometer automatically switches screen orientation when the device is rotated, which is a good feature to have instead of browsing through the menu trying to find it.

Diamond should be available for European customers in June, with US availability scheduled for the second half of the year.

HTC are obviously great at building UI and apparently their phones arent too bad either (huge
understatement especially looking at this phone).. but if only they would build their own UI
throughout the whole of windows mobile... I look at these small demo vids and they look good...
until i see one with the standard WM keypad layout bull-crap...

When you say "US Version" do you mean the Sprint CDMA one, or will there be a US GSM version too?

Nevermind. HTC updated their website. There is now a GSM 850/1800/1900 HSDPA 850/1900 version.
