HTC Hero stops to get FCC approval before heading to AT&T or Rogers?

A Hero stopped by the FCC today. The HTC Hero visited the Feds and by the time all the paperwork was shuffled, the device received approval for the WCDMA 850/1900 bands. It just so happens that those are the same numbers that you would find AT&T phones using as well as Rogers up in Canada. Now normally this might lead to a shrug of the shoulders, but for those who have seen the YouTube videos of the Sense UI meshing with Android and working with Flash 10, you would see why this Hero is a big deal. And it was just the other day when reports suggested that Sprint was going to get this handset.

We don't know if Sprint is still going to get this device, but what we can say is that based on this particular FCC approval, it looks like the HTC Hero could be bound first for AT&T and/or Rogers in North America. A letter dated 5/29 asks the FCC to grant 180 days of confidentiality for items like certain photos and the User Manual. Based on this request, we probably won't see the Hero in North America until the 4th quarter of this year.
