Is the interface glass or plastic?

There's no such thing as a "glass or plastic interface". It is the SCREEN that would be glass or plastic. The Dare's screen is plastic, but higher quality than the Voyager.

Go try the LG Vu at At&t - that is how the screen should feel - very slick.

Why would anyone want glass as it can break easier than plastic

Glass screens are "capacitive" and hence, usually more responsive.

Except in the case of the Glyde, which is an absolute disaster.

The i-phone is cool but i think the dare will be so much better. Not only the phone who wants to pay 800 for a phone that you have to send away if it breaks and cant get insurance on it. ATT really f'd up there. To bad for all the suckers that buy and loose it or have it stolen. Verizon will offer the insurance and instore technicians. 50 dollar deductable come on why complain.

It's cool if you don't mind it catching your bag on fire because the battery is too hot.

Actually as much as i want to agree with you, Apple has update the firmware for both the I phone and their Ipods.....the firmware allows the devices to not hold a charge and refuse a charge, only if reported stolen

I've been looking forward to this phone for a while now! I get a new phone in august, and I'm DYING to trade in my enV after 2 years of abuse. Does anyone have any idea [even a guess] at how much the phone will cost though? =/ That'll probably be the main concern with me

3.55 mm jack, user interface screen will be the same material as the voyager, I have it right now and it blows away the WANNA BE PRADE that att calls an Iphone...it is lighter , thinner, sexier and better with touch.....and I can get insurance and a year warranty with it...it will be able to sync to outlook for email, calendar and appointments , so yes it is a PDA/smartphone....the camera is SEXY and the phone will be great.....until the Blackberry Thunder comes out..

sorry ATT, your day in the sun is over....Verizon now has the most subscribers, the best network and the best phone selection.

Wait, so is it a smatphone? Wouldn't they sell it to the regular crowd so it competes with the iPhone, and Vu? Also, does this have MobileTV and a full HTML browser?

no its not a pda/smartphone, just a very smart dumbphone

full HTML browser but NO Mobile TV....and it is a smartphone....it can sync to outlook, so thats how it gets that classification ...I love it no phone out there is like this. NONE.

Actually no, the Dare is NOT a smartphone and the ability to sync with outlook is NOT the what determines whether or not a phone is a smartphone.

sorry esqueer thats exactly what DOES determine how a phone is classified....since thats what I do for a living, I think I would be the better voice on this...so why dont you stuff some cotton in your mouth and learn.

No need for the insults. Clearly you are childish and not worth my time. It takes a lot more than the ability to sync with outlook to be classified as a smartphone, not to mention the fact that there is no single, definitive definition of the term. And how would you know what I do for a living?

LOL ok first of all. you're an idiot. Second, esquire is correct. That is NOT what makes a smartphone a smartphone. The Dare is NOT a smartphone nor will the ability to sync with Outlook make it so.

you guys are all dumb as shit....this is why NO ONE comes here to read what you guys post....a smartphone is determined by the tasks it can perform ABOVE a regular handset....the Dare will be able to open and read emails and attachments, has the abilty to sync to your comp to upload and update calendar, task manager and appointments....and it is working off the fastest speeds possible.....so again MORONS explain how this does not classifyas a smartphone but a Q is???

pwned.

this is why no one comes here and posts besides you 2 jackasses.

LOL OK this is funny and needs clarification.

A smartphone is a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities beyond a typical mobile phone, often with PC-like functionality. There is no industry standard definition of a smartphone. For some, a smartphone is a phone that runs complete operating system software providing a standardized interface and platform for application developers. For others, a smartphone is simply a phone with advanced features.

Most devices considered smartphones today use an identifiable operating system (Palm, Symbian, Windows, Linux, Android, RIM) often with the ability to add applications (e.g. for enhanced data processing, connectivity or entertainment) - in contrast to regular phones which only support sandboxed applications (like Java games and soft java/brew applications). These smartphone applications may be developed by the manufacturer of the device, by the network operator or by any other third-party software developer.

In terms of features, most smartphones support full featured email capabilities with the functionality of a complete personal organizer. Other functionality might include an additional interface such as a miniature QWERTY keyboard, a touch screen or a D-pad, a built-in camera, contact management, an accelerometer, built-in navigation hardware and software, the ability to read business documents in a variety of formats such as PDF and Microsoft Office (which the Dare does not), media software for playing music, browsing photos and viewing video clips, internet browsers or even just secure access to company mail, such as is provided by a BlackBerry. The main difference between a smartphone and a dumbphone has been the ability to open up email attachments of any type and provide full PC connection capability for syncing. Just cuz it can sync with microsoft outlook for basic connectivity and download does not mean it can fully utilize Outlook like a true smartphone can.

So I agree with Esquire and R3GUL8OR to a point. Like I said, since there is no standard definition, really, almost any phone can be a "smartphone". However, the wireless world would look at the Dare as a "dumbphone" since it lacks the ability to offer advanced features. In short, once ytou play with the Dare, it is no different in its functions than the LG Voyager, LG Shine, LG Glimmer or even the LG enV. And these are NOT smartphones. And having been a beta tester for LG, LG uses Windows for their smartphone devices (although I have heard they have a Symbian phone. Never seen it though). Having played with the Dare at a confrence, the Dare does not provide full Outlook connectivity, does not allow pdf or office attachments or any other attachment for that matter to be opened and is running a similar UI to the voyager with a few improvements. So "The Man", I'm sorry, you're wrong. Im not going to call you an idiot or a moron like you have decided to address these guys, but you're wrong. You didnt provide any useful information and you tried to compare the Moto Q (a windows based smartphone) to the LG Dare (the updated version to LG's 2 year old GSM Prada). No one likes posting here becuase half of this crap comes straight from HoFo while the other half is pure speculation and BS to get people excited. And the fastest speeds possible is capable becuase its using EVDO Rev A, not Rev 0.

Thank you #71. The dare is a SICK phone, but lacking the ability to host 3rd party apps makes it far from a smart phone. It's a very smart phone, but its not a smartphone.

Asking a Verizon rep to opine on the qualifications of a smartphone is like asking some putz at Best Buy to explain the ins and outs of plasma versus LCD. All they're going to do is regurgitate a bunch of crap from a spec sheet and push the "hot" phone. I have Verizon and love it because of the reception, but the sales reps are just glorified shoe salesmen. "I work at a Verizon store so don't question me!" Shmutz.

I might think of getting this phone only if Verizon does not cripple the phone ( Bluetooth OBEX Transfer, and other features the phone was built natively with).

the phone is quite light, feels like you are holding the Env 2. Schneider lense for the 3.2 meg camera, face detection, somewhat noticeable shutter lag, reasonable speaker phone, UI is just like the Vogager, no TV. I would prefer the Voyager due to the TV, querty keyboard, a bit more responsive than the Dare, dual screen, nice stereo speakers, features loaded. Remember, Verizon offers service features not hardware phone features, Voyager has the most capability to have all of the service features Verizon offers. Beside that, I would hope for the HTC Diamond and HTC Diamond pro.

Yah 8lias, I agree with #53. Why don't you wait until the phone comes out before you start rating it.
