I think I read somewhere that it may not come out until January 2009 now. Just read that earlier this evening. You never know though...I think some of the tech news you find on the internet is based in rumor and speculation.

I still dont get why verizon had HTC build them their own touch pro, it doesnt make any sense. Though itll prolly still run TF3D just fine, since it is minimum specs for it (the originally diamond had 192 ram, and ran it just fine). Not like i care though, im getting the BB Niagara or Jupiter whichever comes first lol

the pro touch is kind of xpensive. if bb storm is gonna be 199 or 299, why would you want to get anything else?! just wait and see. lets see the compared reviews are w/these fones?

The Storm will be $199 after rebate. Good old Microsoft charges for everything. I think that has something to do with the higher price of the Touch Pro. When we used to sell the Treo 700, they where side by side and the 700p was $249 and the 700WX was $299... Same phone, different OS... Window is good for alot of things but over all I think BB is better... And CHEAPER!

I agree about the price of the pro touch. too much money. i spent that on the phone i have now and it doesn't work any better than most of the less expensive devices i have had.

I would love to know which phone has a faster processor....the Blackberry Storm, the Saga or the Omnia...I heard Palm runs very slowly when browsing the web...That is the Palm OS. I know there is a Palm with Windows, but haven't heard how fast it is.

Probably should had gone long ago since I get discounts from my job with AT&T.

Idiots. It's not about what you can or cannot afford. Hardware wise, Verizon is offering an inferior product and charging more for it. It's not being cheap to refuse to purchase it, it's called being a good consumer.

Why should this guy have to shell out an extra $50 for a stripped version of the phone?

Call customer care and complain that the price is higher and see what they do... or go to an agent location and see if they can sell it for cheaper. Or just give up because you clearly arent willing to try to get what you want unless its handed to you.

OMG...I don't ever have a phone of any kind for two years. it isn't cheap to want a better deal. it is prudent since, in all electronic devices, better products come out way closer together than two years. I would die of boredom if I had the same phone for two years. That would be like carrying the same bag for an entire season....I like to accessories too much to wait that long to change them. I generally upgrade every year. Even at the new contract price and without the extra discount, it is worth it to keep up with the newest technology.

They all go on sale. Prices fluctuate just like the economy. Also, as soon as a newer version or a new product comes out that draws enough attention, the prices will drop and, if you bought it at the price it came out with, you end up feeling ripped off in six months.

Congrats Verizon, you lost another customer!

You expect me to pay more $$ for a device that has worse specs then the lower costing Sprint and AT&T models?

Gotta be joking me. Off to AT&T or Sprint I go.

And I should add in that I travel on business to Europe and Japan quite often, so global roaming is needed. I used to rent a global phone from Verizon when I went overseas, but once I get my Fuze I won't have to.

ok this phone does all of that! like i said you have a laundry list of things you want youre phone to do YET youre not willing to pay for them. so if ATT and sprint has it for cheap then go to att and sprint. there's a reason why they offer their phones for so cheap, because they dont invest nearly as much in their network, they dont have in-store technicians and most of all GSM phones cost a considerable amount LESS to produce than a CDMA version. Why do you think CDMA versions tend to be released after gsm model?

Rabid Verizon fanboys......... *sigh*

I know it does all the features I listed. But AT&T's and Sprint's do them better for less.

Seriously. Why don't you and your buddies get a life and do something other that prowling the internet trying to defend your company in every way possible?

You can tell you've cornered a Verizon fanboy when you force them to use "the network" as a reason. Honestly if "the network" was that great I wouldn't be dropping calls on an i760 on Interstate 5 from LA to San Diego. It's not the phone. I've been through 3, and I still get the same results. Even when I'm at home, my phone only works on the ground level or outside.

Like anything with electronics, you get what you pay for bro. Any that whole biz about going to Europe for work doesn't make any sense when the phones mentioned in this article are capable of that, not to mention, why not just go for a BB Storm?

The Renown doesn't do what I need it to do, and I really like the TouchFLO 3D interface and the form factor of the Pro. This is coming from someone used to a i760. I'm not a fan of candybar smartphones.

Seriously, just stop. I've made up my mind that I'm switching, and you're not going to change it.

I WORK in a Verizon reseller and no one has asked about the Storm. I don't think that the hype is as big as Verizon and people on the internet are portraying it as. Even my manager said that most of the people who Verizon is targeting have already gotten an iPhone or G1.

It's called the credit crisis...moron. Just to put in my two cents about all this...att, sprint, t-mobile, and verizon all suck. The best network is a pair of quarters. Works wherever I go. lol Do you people really think it makes your network that much better when start ratting random crap about phone companies. Get a life people. Who the hell would be a fan of their network...just use it...I don't go around saying I'm a charmin fan and defend it for it's soft and cushy texture. Seriously it's probably because of lazy asses like you sitting around on forums all day that we got into this crisis in the first place.

reseller? wtf is a reseller? Are you part of the indirect channel? moron... Subagent? Non exclusive agent? Agent(retailor)? and last at the top of the list Premium Retailor? I work for a Premium Retailor and I would never refer to myself as a reseller. You arent a reseller unless your a sub agent. The phones you get are either floated with verizon or you pay upfront from them and they all come in shipments from the warehouses just like corporate stores. Clearly you are an Idiot. A corporate store needs to do about 500 new acts a month and mine does roughly 55-60 so you can get a feel for the diffence in traffic and i have a list of over 40 people we are reserving the phones for. Maybe your customer service sucks and people just dont buy from your location. The only way no one would come in asking is if maybe you only sell a phone a day.

I haven't gotten what I have paid for in the way of Verizon smartphones or even in a regular cell phone. I have four phones on my plan and the only one working correctly at the moment is the one I just swapped in last night. I have had to replace my handsets so many times that I am submitting a bill to Verizon corporate offices for my time and travel expenses. Then, after I receive faulty devices, Verizon gets on my case about swapping phones. I paid the two year contract price of $350.00 for my 6800 and it is one of the worst devices I have ever owned. It even shocked my daughter when she picked it up to move it over on the end table...no, there was no water, humidity or moisture of any kind involved. Upon telling Verizon customer service this, they actually suggested that I pay the deductible and submit it as a claim to my insurance for a refurbished phone. The same phone...only used. Mine was reported defective to them within two weeks of having it. The store would not swap it out. I tried to talk to tech...they wanted to send me a refurbished phone as well. I paid for a new phone and want a new phone. I have spent twelve plus hours on the phone with Verizon this week alone. At this rate, I will never owe a phone bill again. The fact is, my time is valuable and I want a situation resolved the first time I call not twenty times later. I should not have to drive from store to store to see if they have enough cash in their drawer to refund the money for the phone. One supervisor claimed that if I had trouble at store level, she would make a note of a "promise" in the system and I could call back, order a different phone and be reimbursed the difference. When I called back, I was given an entirely different story. I would love to switch carriers as most of them have superior devices, but I have four phones on a relatively new plan and my entire family and most of my friends have been stuck with Verizon for so long they can't get away. When my plan runs out, I will buy the phone I want and feel will suit my needs at full price and not deal with a contract again. I actually think they would let me out of the plan now as I have yet to obtain a device that actually performs for more than two or three weeks before I have "software" issues with it. I have never even dropped one of the phones. They have never gotten wet. Nothing has caused any physical or even cosmetic damage to any of the handsets that I have had to return and go through hours of arguments with Verizon in order to get them replaced. This has become almost a full time job for me. I get to work, take care of my children, take care of my house and pets and spend my free time chatting with Verizon and begging them to send me a working device. No matter how up to date they are technologically, they are not able to deliver a quality device to me. Now, the older phones I have had with Verizon never had an issue. This issue has come up since I opened my new plan in June of this year. I can't even get advice from anyone in the company as to what smartphone they feel best suits my needs and which one is the most customizable....basically, I like to be online whenever and I want my phone to look cute while I do it. It is another accessory to me. Goes with designer bags and clothes. I have a regular cell, but love having the internet wherever I am and like to be able to text in different color fonts. Still haven't found a Verizon phone that does that. Ok...I've rambled enough. I am just very frustrated and noticed that Verizon is defended here no matter what people have to say, so I wanted to balance things out a bit.

I agree....maybe you should stop defending Verizon and look into why so many people are complaining. if you check into consumer affairs and the bbb...you will see it isn't just on here that people have an issue with Verizon pricing and being lied to and mislead by customer service and in the stores when they are trying to sell you a contract. At that point, they will promise anything. Getting Verizon to follow through with a promise is an entirely different matter.

I have had it with Verizon people saying that. If the customers aren't treated better, they will leave and Verizon will no longer corner the market....I know a lot of people stick with Verizon, not because of the equipment, but because they are afraid of the huge phone bills that will result in calling out of network unless they get the unlimited plan and have to add a data and messaging plan on top of that....way too much money, so everyone stays around so they can stay in touch with friends and family who are stuck in Verizon contracts. They are the most overpriced of all of the carriers.

I think you did a wonderful job at getting your point across. Why stay with a company if they cannot offer you the device you need and the features you want when you are paying for a product. I agree with you...you have to go where you are able to get what you want and need...why even bother to argue with anyone who doesn't agree with you. You are the consumer and have every right to take advantage of a free market and do business with any carrier that offers you the best deal both in their phones and in their rate plans.

I had both phones and couldn't agree more. I have been having trouble with the 6800 since right after I received the thing. Reported the issues right away and still have the stupid thing...waiting for word from a supervisor at Verizon because the other phones that I am considering are much less than I paid for the 6800 and they expect me to eat the cost. I did like the i760 until it had the problems that caused it to be recalled...never cared for the 6800. The thing shocked my daughter and Verizon doesn't care about that. Thank goodness it didn't electrocute her. I guess they would care then...no company likes litigation. As sue happy as Americans are, one would think that the moment I mentioned my daughter was injured by their phone, they would have done something about it. I, however, do not believe in unnecessary litigation, but I do not represent the majority of Americans who would do most anything to turn a quick buck. I know all about this because I work in the medical field and the crazy things people sue over make me want to choose another profession.

verizon needs to stop making their phone prices so high for some models, obviously it's a negative reaction for the touch pro's price, they'll lose a lot of people who are considering the touch pro on verizon when they see its a lot less on sprint and att. hopefully the storm isn't a lot.

So the VZW version of the touch pro has the HTC logo removed and put theirs on the bottom.(AT&T and Sprint left it at the bottom of the screen, the carrier logo on the top right). But this wouldn't be a big deal for most.

What is a big deal, is that from the screenshot, the TouchFLO 3D interface software is removed, and replaced with the generic WM Today screen, and also the accelerometer is removed. What gives?

0

It still has the TouchFLO 3D as an option. For some odd reason Verizon thought it would be better to take the stock photos of it with the standard WinMo interface. And you're right that doesn't have the accelerometer.

Everyone on the internet says it has the TouchFLO 3D interface as an option, but Verizon makes no mention of it in their flyer.

i dont care how big of a fanboy you are, there is absolutely no way you can justify vzw charging more for a less capable device. not even bringing service charges into play, the vzw pro is more expensive than the sprint pro or fuze despite being crippled. there is absolutely no argument you can make to justify that. none. $50 less and $99/month? here i come, sprint!

and to those who will inevitably throw out the network argument...my wife has sprint, we travel all over the country often and 9 times out of 10 shes got better service than me.

Not to mention that you already pay extra for "the Network", so it should have nothing to do with the cost of the device.
