Cell phones will warn Japan of earthquakes

The three largest cell carriers in Japan (NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Softbank) are agreeing to cooperate in delivering earthquake alert messages to their customers. The information will be supplied by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), which has an extensive network of earthquake monitors. In the US, Sprint was the first to test such an idea, but maybe all the wireless operators can join in an effort to do something like that about tornadoes, hurricanes and all kinds of natural disasters.
