BlackBerry Storm now available from Verizon Wireless

Verizon has unleashed a Storm onto the US and with the launch of the first ever touch screen BlackBerry device, they tend to get busy with the high numbers of anticipated sales....

The store was not packed & i'm sure they had the Storm available. They had two Demos out, and they were both free to try out. No hype at this VW store.

OS is too slow. Even scrolling had a lag. The touch screen is the best thing about it though. You can glide through the screen and push to activate an app or click on a character on the QWERTY, which works better than the iPhone b/c of the click feature in my opinion. If the OS was quick, this would be an excellent phone. Despite that I would say the iPhone is still a lot better OS wise.

ATTENTION... YOU HAVE TO DO A SOFT RESET AFTER OTAing THE PHONE..... then it works pretty good..

Played with the Storm today. Impressions: Phone is heavy, but not too heavy. It is slow to startup, but all blackberries are and I didn't time it, but I don't think it was 5-10 min like some claim. The accelerometer sticks sometimes and it does take a sec or two to flip between portrait and landscape, but you can do this at any time, unlike the shall-be-nameless one (SBN1). Internet looked ok, but I prefer the SBN1 more when it is using wi-fi. If you complain that your thumbs hurt after typing awhile on it, then I question how you have the strength to even hold the phone, pansies (slight jab, but seriously you'll get used to it). Only serious complaint is the lag, which I am confident will be fixed in a software update. The SBN1 3g was just as laggy when it first released and if you argue this point then it is clear you are not an unbiased observer, and the 3g on t he SBN1 doesn't even work half the time (DFW area).

Again, just my slightly-biased observations as an Apple-tree hugging hippie working for an evil corporation out to steal your soul and your wallet.

I really like the SBN1, but it has limitations that certain fanbois are so quick to overlook. Simply, the Storm does not have these limitations, and is on a better network. Is it perfect, no. Is it better than the SBN1 3g? Depends on what you want to do with it, but I say yes (barely).

I'm one of the few lucky ones to get one of these things in Atlanta today, but it's going back to Verizon tomorrow. I needed a decent "all in one" device, but the photo quality from the 3 megapixel autofocus camera on the Storm is HORRIBLE. I double checked the settings to make sure by default it's not set low, but no, it was at 3MP "super fine" settings - yet the pics look focused only in the very center, and quickly turn into more and more digital "mush" as you get toward the edges. It almost looks as if these are 1 megapixel images that are being upsized (interpolated) by the phone into larger sizes. Faded, mushy... Ugh.

Now, I wasn't expecting top quality - but I was upgrading from a 2 year old Samsung Flipshot that also has a 3MP camera on it, and I was at least expecting it to be as good as that (and they're good). I do jobs on the side where taking decent pics are needed, so a camera feature is important to me on a phone. Even resized down to web sizes, I can see the flaws in the pics.

Neat idea. The screen didn't bug me like some. The screen quality is nice. Battery life seems ok for such a device. But to put a camera on a device like this that isn't better than some VGA cameras I've seen is bad. Very bad.

You'd have to be a complete idiot to not understand that even cheap cell phone camera pics look good ON THE PHONE SCREEN. You can't see how good (or BAD) they are until you get home and print them or view them on your computer. Everything looks good on a 2.5-inch screen.

I'm tired of zit-faced kids who live with their mommies and 8 cats trolling on here doing nothing but making smart-assed comments. Get a life kid. Or go jump off of something very high. You bother me.

Well, "fanman" and "anonymous" - it turns out they admitted that yes, my camera WAS defetctive. Exactly how long would YOU need to keep it to figure that out? I have a working brain - it didn't take me long. I checked to make sure the camera settings were at their best, did a series of test shots, and they all looked like watercolor paintings. How many WEEKS would you have needed to keep it to figure out there was a problem? Sorry if you're slow. I'm not. And as I stated before you can't test a camera out in the store - they all look good on a 2 inch screen. You have to view them on a monitor to see if there's an issue with the pics. Again, any waterhead can figure that out. Oh, and they waived the restock fee. They do that for adults.

They saw the printouts and checked it at the store. Defective. Easy to figure out - for me and them, anyway. After doing some searching I'm finding others who are having problems with their cameras as well, so it's not a unique incidence, either.

yes you are correct the flipshot has not been out for two years about a year now is all that it has been available but verizon had the samsung A990 since back in mid 2006 which is the same phone just renamed like the samsung u740 that they decided to release under a new name "alias" but market it as new.

I ordered the Storm they were sold out at my nearset location. I basically purchased it because it was a good deal. Yeah it will take me awhile to get used to. As for the slow complaints, I'm positive they are going to release an update as soon as possible. I look forward to giving the phone a chance and test it for the 30days.

There is nothing revolutionary about the phone except it’s a copy of the iphone
528 MHz processor, not 624 MHz, neutered, matter of fact they have chosen a cheaper Cpu pxa930 instead of the powerful pxa320 (Samsung Omnia) which can be over clocked to a 806mhz (pxa320 has 256 kb l2 cache and a 768 kb 3d frame buffer)
Not VGA, only half the revolution! When they thought of the resolution, they saw the iphone as the limit, there is no creativity (… copying)
No wide screen format to play movies nicely, only square 4:3 aspect ratio, they forgot to copy that.
No infrared port
No flash support
No Bluetooth v2.1
No video acceleration
No LED, regular TFT LCD
No 16.7 millions true colors like the iphone,
No WIMAX, don’t even dream about it
No WIFI, no streaming “not allowed thru. Plans”
No high number of channels of polyphonic (32 channels only) ringtones typically 72
Pages are slow to load and render and zoom/pan operations were slow and jerky no matter what the software version is, till it becomes 5. And up.
Not really built for multi tasking only small memory even it has big Rom, not enough Ram 128MB
No 8-megapixel camera
No stereo microphone
No stereo loudspeaker
No electronic dictionary
No business card recognition
No finger print reader

Well its revolutionary to verizon users because it is the closest thing to the iphone and still falls short. Same scenario with the voyager last year when it was compared to the first iphone...then, the LG dare came out and it had the same outcome as the voyager...it seems any fancy touchscreen verizon gets, it is automatically compared to the iphone. and verizon users cannot get it through their heads that service depends on where u live...there is no argument. if someone had to choose between tmobile or verizon and tmobile had the service in his/her area, im sure they would go with tmobile, not verizon because jd power's article said so or the idiots on these posts said so either...

yea with tmobile you may have service at your house, but the second you walk out the door it'll be gone! the dare and voyager should not have been compared to the iphone to begin with, they are dumb phones! my voyager is just a normal verizon phone with a touchscreen, qwerty, visual voicemail and tv, nothing special, its gay! and who cares if you have servide, thats what a landline is for duhhhhhhh!

Not many people even have landlines anymore unless they have a business or do not have a cell phone.. and i was using tmobile as an example because everyone dogs on them as if they are not even a competitor... i have att but dont mind tmobile or sprint....just hate verizon...

because the people who have verizon think their network is flawless...every network has their ups and downs... Even my friends who have verizon try to persuade me to switch to verizon...Ive had att for 5 yrs and am pleased with their service and enjoy my discounts with them. plus i prefer gsm any day over cdma.

yea and it seems again there are more verizon fans than at&t fans like on phone arena! and if your friends have verizon i would think you would too so when they send a text message to you that gay little arrow doesnt stay there next to the sent message... maybe we think that because it is most of the time true :-). how can you hate a cell phone company who has the most us coverage? hate is a strong word!!! fergie uses the env in her glamorous music video.

half my friends have verizon, half have att (Like 1% have something other)...i could care less about fergie or if everyone switches to verizon tomorow...im still going to stay with att. i have 2400 rollover mins so i could talk to anyone on any service at any time.
