BlackBerry Storm 2 to be the 9550?

Some information about the BlackBerry Storm 2 was given to BGR and while some of it is news, other parts simply rehash what we already know. For example, the Storm 2 will be given the 9550 designation for models heading to Verizon. It appears as though a 9520 model of the Storm 2 exists and could be offered by AT&T and/or Rogers.

The BlackBerry Storm 2 will be equipped with Wi-Fi, a 3.2MP camera, offer CDMA/EV -DO Rev. A, Quad band GSM/EDGE, and single band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz). The screen will be capacitive, like the original, with resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. Our original story about the sequel to RIM's first touchscreen device had mentioned a 5MP camera and a new TruePress typing system to replace the clicking SurePress keyboard. The camera appears to remain the same as the first handset and we have no information on TruePress. Pricing and release dates are still up in the air at this point, and there still is the question of whether or not buyers of the original Storm will get some type of "early adopter discount".

i'll stick with my original storm. nothing new on this one is jumping out enough for me to upgrade.

As will I fanman, a change in shape, wifi, thats nothing that would make me wanna upgrade either. 5.0 megapixel camera, a longer life battery, and true type would be a start.

I guess I won't be upgrading to the new Storm. Same Camera and Wi-fi. Not worth the upgrade. Like everyone else said, if you bumped the Camera up to 5.0mp at least, changed that stupid sure press stuff, improved the resolution, wi-fi is cool but not as important, worked on the OS system for bugs, added Flash support, and improved the phones memory. Than I might take a look but as of right now with these new specs I have no interest in spending my money for the same phone.

I am sure there are going to be alot of customers that are going to fall for the trick of thinking this is a major upgrade and go out and spend on their money on this but good luck to them.

I think I am looking for another PDA with Verizon and right now there really are no good choices.

I highly recommend the Blackberry Tour. I bought it yesterday to replace my Storm which I wasn't overly impressed with. I have no complaints so far and love the Tour, everything I expected. I put it side by side with the Blackberry Curve 8900 and I liked the Tour better. Even my friend with the Cuve 8900 liked the weight of the Tour better. Only complaint is the lack of WiFi, but I knew that before I bought the phone.

I might have to look into that, cause I am not happy with my Storm. Imma stop at the Verizon store today to play with it and see how it is.

am i the only one who likes the storm and has no problems? i just can't settle for the tour's small screen compared to the storm. vz nav looks awesome on the big screen and so does browsing the web.

I found that the screen was amazing and likewise VZ Navigator was great with the larger screen, but that wasn't enough to make up for the other problems I've had.

The Storm can be and is a great phone depending on your use, I just don't feel it's the best phone for business use. Do you send a lot of text messages or long emails?

Everybody has their own preference and if you like the Storm, by all means you should keep it. I'm sure with software updates a lot of the glitches will get fixed. They're both good phones, but the Tour is a lot more responsive.

I plan to trade in my Tour for the Aries next year though. I really need WiFi calling where I live.

I was also not impressed with the sound quality on my Storm, but as we discussed on another forum that could be a problem on my phone.

I'm kinda there with you, I'm not so much worried about the size of my screen. My concern is how responsive my phone is. It serves me no use to have a huge screen and a phone that doesn't work when I need it too.

I think the Storm is a nice phone that has alot of potential, I just don't see it right now. Verizon and RIM need to spend some more time on it. I am on my 3rd BB Storm. I was with Sprint for 7 years and never did I have to have a phone replaced. I've been with Verizon for 2 and I've had 3 LG EnV's upgraded me to a Flipshot, and had that replaced twice. I then upgraded to a Storm and I've had 3 Storms. Phones shouldn't have that many bugs.

I did play with the Tour today on break from work and I did like it, way more responsive. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I might go ahead and get that.
