While it is true that UMTS and HSPA are incompatible with EV-DO, it is an inaccurate statement to say that Verizon does not have 3G.

EV-DO stand for 3g data that's it is a type of 3g but very simple, using EV-DO you can't do simultaneus voice and data, with 3GSM that is a standart, is like cable internet and DSL, cable use more resourses

Verizon DOES have 3G. All 3G stands for is 3rd Generation. Even Alltel has 3G. 1st Gen would be Analog, 2nd Gen Digital, and 3G basically stands for any network that operates faster then digital (ie; EV-DO speeds, UMTS etc.) for data and other enhanced services. UMTS is a TYPE of 3G which AT&T uses, but WCDMA is also a type of 3G, the CDMA of course standing for the network type (Code-Division Multiple Access) Verizon and Alltel use. Class is now over lol.
