I doubt apple will go to any other carriers in the US.

If anyone they would go to Verizon.
They DID deny the iPhone on their network after all.

you know it's interesting..
i heard VZW is strict about what phones they pick n choose n sell.
they might've denied the iPhone in the beginning, but hell they're even surveying people that left to see if iPhone was one of the reasons.

if anything, apple should forget the exclusivity and come to VZW and the damned arguments about BBStorm & iPhone will be over..
if that happens.. VZW.. wow. congrats.

i dont think att can have exclusive rights much longer because verizon's sister company has had the iphone since att and we heard an employee at verizon say they are going to get more devices from them. one could be the iphone and plus apple cant upgrade the iphone because att is a 3g network and vodafone is a 4g lte network and soon verizon and sprint will be as well so if apple is smart they wont extend the exclusive date

Here's what I'm thinking: VZW has an "open network" thing that they announced, but so far there have only been niche devices, not really phones that have been presented and passed the almighty VZW testing process. What if, mind you this is pure speculation, what if Apple makes their CDMA iPhone happen, and makes it available via the apple store? Verizon keeps customers (albeit these customers are paying full price for the devices) and doesn't have to be responsible for servicing the iPhone because they don't sell it. Verizon wins because data ARPU goes up, and they don't have to worry about replacing anything on the iPhones that come in for servicing. Apple wins because they have a CDMA iPhone that could presumably be adapted for Sprint, MetroPCS and US Cellular. AT&T would be the only carrier to subsidize it, but I think it would reduce churn on the CDMA guys' side because ATT iPhone = $200, "Open" iPhone $400, but hey, no ETF or act fees to worry about, and it wouldnt touch your VZW contract. win/win/win What do you guys think?

I really do see your logic, but I think it is highly unlikely. I seriously doubt Apple would make a CDMA Iphone and sell via Apple store. I think This would work better through a GSM network. Which is really ony ATT and T-Mobile(USA). I think this wouldn't really bring Apple that much money either. It is a pretty cool Idea, but to me it wouldn't work. I have a feeling it would piss verizon off cause they probably wouldn't make any money. Cool idea though!

oh yeah? and how do you know that it'll "work better through a GSM network" ?
you've never seen a CDMA iPhone that runs on 4G LTE, so shut up.

Verizon is losing money on handsets. The cost for subsidizing things and early upgrades and full retails are hurting their bottom line. The biggest reason people leave VZW? No, it's not the iPhone, it's the fact that people don't understand how their contracts work and cry when they can't get an early upgrade. So they bitch to cust service who allows an early upgrade. An "event phone" like the iPhone could be awesome for Apple, because they'd be opening up the product to a whole new customer set, and it could be awesome for Verizon because they could position the "openness" of the network and make lots of money for themselves as long as Apple doesn't have its hand in the pot for service. Having a CDMA iPhone or any "open" device that automatically requires data use increases their data revenue even if someone isn't locked in to a contract, and Apple makes money off the devices. I think that it just might be something to think about, I don't care if you're a GSM purist or not, the fact is that there's a lot of people that use CDMA too...China, anyone? Not everyone cares what technology powers their phone, most people actually kind of go, "Hey that's a cool/pretty/shiny/etc. phone. I want that." There's a ton of people that carry an iPhone because it's the "cool phone." It'd be smart for Apple to start expanding their customer base, and I was just speculating on one way this could be done.

@trist I never said for sure. It normally would work better because of how GSM network functions compared to CDMA. GSM works better for unlocking and locking a handset to a cellular network, and who said anything about 4G? you need to STFU!

@ yippeekiyaymofo I know what your saying man. CDMA isnt made for open devices that's all Im was saying. For a "open" CDMA iPHONE Apple would have to make a U-RIM card which is only available in Asia right now. U-RIM card is the equivalent to a SIM card for a GSM network, which allows you to change to another carrier. U-RIM cards are supposedly in the making for US carriers. CDMA is used much outside US execpt for Asia, everywhere else is mostly GSM. If Apple makes a CDMA Iphone they will have to choose which carriers or carrier to sell from. I hope yall better understand what I meant.

@drewsky wtf are you talking about? if apple wanted to go to VZW in the first place and VZW accepted it then there would be a cdma iphone by now. the fact that you're judging by saying it works better in a gsm network is BS til you've seen one for the cdma, which nobody has, thus you're the only one saying that. so gtfo.

So, if the iPhone goes to other carriers, then that means that the Blackberry Storm should go to other carriers right? After all, RIM should want to make money too and why not release the Storm on a carrier that has worldwide coverage?
