BGR has started the rumor that AT&T intends to fight back and address the stir created by Verizon with the release of the Motorola DROID in no other way but rolling out 8-gigabyte version of the iPhone 3GS at a price of $99 and do it around Christmas. It´s been a while since one of our tipsters told us АТ&T would release the HTC Hero at the beginning of 2010, although we haven´t had any new information on the matter so far. So, what´s your opinion? Do you think this is a likely move? Would it prove successful?

ppl still don't get how strong iPhone's appeal is. It's not the latest, but it works, and the polls say, it works the best. So at&t is smart when it comes to getting big sales. Now, did they plan for the extra kids using data? I hope so...

You know what I think? I think Verizon is doing really well today because all the Verizon Fanboys are not on this website today. They must be busy selling Droids. Be that the case, then I say fantastic job Motorola, Google and Verizon!

now if you look at the storage of the droid the droid has 16gb pre-installed.
but i do see this as a plus considering the majority of the people looking for a droid are also looking for an iphone.

edit: the majority of people who are considering the droid are most probably considering it because its a "woahhh wow phone" (now i'm not stating everyone, and by most i mean 50.2%). who probably would not necessarily care about the 16 gigs of droid, and the 8 gigs of iphone.

so, still, att has a good idea on its hands

I'm not an AT&t fan but that's smart. All of the parents that are thinking about getting a kid a phone for christmas will consider buying them the phone they really want since it's only $99. For everyone else competition is always good for the consumer.

But you can already get an 8Gig 3G for 100 bucks. Not much of a difference other than the processor and few other things... for most people, that's not a big difference. I don't see too much of a "WOW!!" factor in this move.

I think its a great idea for apple, if apple really gets $18 per month per iphone from at&t. I think with the fanaticism around the iphone it will be even more of a sales hit. I think it will spell doom for phones like the Palm Pixi. Either way. I hate apple and wish they'd hurry up and screw up bad so people will hate them as much as I do. As for me, I'll probably be picking up a Pixi around the 15th.

i hate all apple products. and apple's CEO is dorky looking. i hate it because it's boring and the design needs to change, i mean it was nice when it came out but hello, now it's just getting old. :-). i still don't understand what's so incredible about it. i like the original iphone design better. the new back is too cheap and gaudy looking. maybe it's just cause i only like exciting looking phones and the iphone does not have an exciting design. and no i'm not jealous. :-J

If you ever took the time to realize all the crazy awesome stuff the iPhone can and will do, it will blow your mind.
IMO, you don't like it because VZDub doesn't have it.

I think this pitch to beat the droid is funny though.
Verizon: We have the iPhone killer!
AT&T:We have the iPhone!
Who will win? Only time will tell.

I agree with u dood.. But let me get this straight, one of the reasons vzwfanman doesnt like Apple is because the CEO looks dorky?? How old are you vzwfanman?..besides the incredible apps available for the iphone, there is more importantly functionality that no other phone is able to match such as the accelerometer and fast and crisp OS.. and vzwfanman, you also keep saying how much the design of the iphone hasnt changed much.. How about your blackberry storm you always brag about? The second model is almost identical. You dont have to love apple products to admit the iphone is a good phone.. You are just a jealous fanboy because vzw doesnt have it and everyone on this site knows it.. Oh and by the way, i wrote this article on my iphone hahaa

yes but the storm design is actually decent looking. i'm just saying he's a dork. the droids accelerometer is just as fast. Again the iphone was nice when it came out 2 years ago, but now it's just old news and i'm getting sick of all the kids carrying around an iphone. blackberry bold FTW. the iphone commercials are the most worthless i've ever seen btw. just get an ipod touch! and lastly..how many times do i have to say i'm not jealous, and i'm not totally stupid because i'm in college. :-)... if anyone over let's say 35 has an iphone than that's just weird because it's a toy phone. so i hope your not over 35 tfelx. :-)

I am 24 and i really dont think age has anything to do with owning an iphone as i see doctors at work carrying iphones on their waist.. The blackberry storm does not look any better than the iphone..the iphone is a very sleek looking phone and i am willing to bet that apple will keep making the iphone better as the years pass.. Even if motorola did step the competition with the droid, im sure apple will retaliate with a new and better iphone in the summer..i saw concept pics of the new iphone and even though they are unofficial pics, the possibities are endless as to what they can do with the iphone and i cant wait to see it.. I am sold on the iphone and will continue to upgrade with an iphone until something beats it..

Are you serious to think that this is stupid? It would be like BMW deciding to drop its price on a 3 series to combat GM releasing an over priced Buick. Like it or not Apple has a name where Droid is still new. Not saying its not good but its not proven yet like the Iphone.The Iphone will continue to sell because it still has a wow factor. Yeah, VZW is just mad because they don't have it and their arrogance made them pass on it. Now they regret it but hope and pray that they get the iPhone. The Droid would have been a better seller as a standard phone than a smart phone. Greed before thinking.

VZW is a poor company when it comes to phones and what the people want. They are bust telling people what they will have. Cheating in numbers by buyin Altell still is not doing much when they are losing customers by the millions because of the iPhone. If the Storm can't knock off the iPhone, the Droid can't. The Droid lacks that sex appeal that women like. I thought the phone was just a phone, then when I found out that it was another 'iPhone killer,' I did not think much of it from then on.

VZW, get at me if need someone in marketing who REALLY knows what you need to do! Arrogance and ignorance cannot keep you on top. If you want TRUE marketing skills and you are talking contract work, get at me. These old timers and stiffs cannot relate to the masses of people. All they want to do is to hold onto their jobs and get bonuses. Me, I know how to make it happen. I am saying all of this without Droid sales figures because I know it is not going to work.

They didn't cheat numbers by buying Alltel, the same can be said when Cingular bought ATT and gained almost 40% of there customer base. Over 25 Million subscribers, VZ only received 11-12 million after the merger cause they have to devise some to ATT in certain markets.

You should do some research for posting. How are you going to make things happen when you don't even have your own facts straight.

I have an Ipod touch that was given to me as a gift, is it nice yes. Do I want it as a phone, no. I don't like the way Apple does business and some of their protocols.

Plus after reading my post "Apple Lover" where did I bash Apple??? I said, "doesn't matter that they made the Iphone #GS $99. I still don't want that phone. At least I know AT&T is worried about the Droid". Nothing bashing bout that... Just fact that I'm still not impressed....

i think there is somthjing with what apple take as a profit that kind of made it not worth it back when vz had a shot. I really dont want one either. The only thing i like about the phone is the capacitive touch screen and all of the accessories for it. Besides that i think it is limited in what can be done with it. If verizon got it i would think about it but would probably not get it. Reall i think the iphone is a great phone for people that like how easy it is to use. I think att sucks, atliest where i live. So in the next two monthes i am going to try out and get what ever fits me the best. I was waiting for the omnia 2 but now i really dont care cause it was suposed to be here monthes ago.
