I just got m 8100 and i want music on my miniSD card to play on my phone. I guess the files can't be mp3 but qcp or mid files. I am wondering which format is better and how to conver mp3 to qcp. I am looking for a progam that i can download to turn mp3 to qcp. well thanks.

Question This does not work.

I have tried to rename an mp3 file to .mid and it just does not work. When using BitPim to load the file, the system automatically renames it, adding the .mp3 extension back to the file. For example, if I rename a file from [filename].mp3 to [filename].mid, the program renames it to [filename].mid.mp3

Is there any way around this? I sure hope so. A 512 meg memory card, and I can't use it...

thanks!

Hans

The handset recognizes .mp3 format or it won't work.

The Fix is quite easy if you are running Windows. I personally am using Windows XP Pro SP2. Open up your My Documents folder > Hit tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" > Hit apply. Now locate the mp3 you want to rename and change the .mp3 at the end of its filename to .mid or .qcp It's that easy. You can also take your phone to Verizon now and have the ROM flashed and get the new operating system which allows playback of mp3's using the mp3 player in the phone (buttons on front of 8100 now work). Hope I helped.

1st..make sure you installed the driver into ur cp, for it to recognize the added cable...if you have to if ur window version does not recognize the port, you will have to use the add hardware option in your cp to look for the cable. once you find the hardware option that you are trying to install, you will have to manually install the driver for that hardware. once the cp recognized the new hardware, you will need to install the software or program that came with ur cable, usually a disket or cd. once the software is installed, you will have to configure the software to the right port where the cable is plugged into. it will take a little time if you are not cp knowledgable. the idea is the driver and software have to be installed.... good luck

just enable the mp3 player

Simplest Way to Enable Multimedia Features:
- buy a miniSD card 128MB or more (256 was $30 at BestBuy)
- buy a USB card reader (to attach to your computer - this way mac or pc) - I bought MobileMate SD+ ($22+ at Best Buy)

Enabling MP3

Menu
0
000000 (when the ?????? is displayed)
11 (Music Settings)
MP3 Enable

Formatting mini-SD (do this before placing card in any other devices)

Settings and Tools
4 (System)
4 (Manage Memory)
3 (Card Memory)
Options (lower right corner)
1 (Format Card) - your password is last 4 digits of your phone number

Enabling PLAY Shortcut Key (front panel)

Settings and Tools
1 (Tools)
3 (Shortcut Key)
2 (Play Key)
My MP3s

Ok. That is it. Now remove your mini-SD card, insert into your favoriate card reader and PC. Copy the MP3 files to the MY_MP3 folder on the mini-SD card. Insert mini-SD card back in to your VX8100 and enjoy all of your songs. To play them, hold down the play button on the front of your phone for 2+ seconds. You will see a song list and while playing a nice little equalizer display appears. You can also open your phone and the same display and controls are available.

I hope this helps you all out and good luck.

Can't play mp3s

I can get the song onto the phone by using the miniSD. but the Music Player won't play the song.

Here's what happens:

If I go into "My Music List' the songs that I have transferred over are there. If I choose a song and click 'launch', it opens up the Music Player. Then when I press play The following comes up.

TM-31: There are no songs in your song library. Please enter the TELUS shop to search, preview and download music.
