Switching Alltel Treo plan to family plan?

Right now I am currently on an Alltel Smartphone plan, the 500 minute one with an extra line, which is $130 a month. I want to switch to the Alltel family plan 500 minutes with an extra line, and switch the Treo to another phone. So I went into the Alltel store to do this, and the lady there said that I am locked to my plan and phones until 2 years from now when my contract expires, since I just renewed it in February. When I had my old 2-year contract with Alltel, I could switch plans at any time. Now she was saying I couldn't. So then last week I called Alltel this time, and the lady on the phone said I could switch plans in May of this year, on the 5th to be exact. So, which person is right? The lady at the store said that normally I would be able to switch plans, but since I'm on a Treo plan, I can't. Who's right? Can I switch plans and phones?

Also, one other quick question: I just sent my phone in to be repaired, and I got a loaner in the meantime. How will Alltel tell me if my phone will be fixed? Will they call me? Or will they just send my phone back without contacting me beforehand?

If you got the Treo at a discounted price through alltel by getting a smartchoice plan, you are locked into that smartchoice plan for two years. You can change your plan to any of the other smartchoice plans.

Okay, well is there ANY way I can get out of my contract? Like if I threaten to cancel my contract? Would they let me switch then? If not, how much is the cancellation fee?

I think the cancellation fee is about $250. If you threaten them they're just going to secretly laugh at you because that's what a contract is -- a legally binding agreement between you and Alltel. Threatening them that you're going to do something you can't do isn't going to work.
