Cingular Rep Here... Questions??
I'm a Cingular Rep and am willing to help answer any reasonable questions you have.
Rules:
1. I can not and will not access your account for you through email.
2. There is no stupid question. Alot of people are new to Cingular and they shouldn't be bashed as all carriers operate different.
3. Do not ask me how to get out of a contract. If you want out, pay the ETF.
4. Keep this thread civilized. If you don't have anyting productive to say, don't say anything at all.

I don't believe the Chocolate is made in GSM (at least I'm not aware of it if it is). If it is GSM and unlocked you can use it on Cingular. Make sure it has at least the 850 and 1900 bands as that's what Cingular uses.

Oops Thanks for the info. I would avoid it because it's missing the 850 band. Depending where your at you might be able to get away with it but why take the chance...

HP IPaq HW6925 Disappointed
I attempted to consolidate the number of electronic devices that I carry and purchased the HP IPaq HW6925. I was very disappointed to learn upon arrival that Cingular has disabled the GPS, unless I purchase the TeleNav service for $5.99 or $9.99 per month. Since I travel internationally and could not find map coverage information for TeleNav, I decided to purchase the GPS software seperately (~$40 and up depending upon maps and quality). It seems very unreasonable that Cingular is charging $5.99 per month for software that can be reasonably obtained for $40. Especially on a phone that can be purchased unlocked for $525 and Cingular is selling for $409.
Why don't you publish that the service fee is required to use the built-in GPS?
Obviously, I am very disappointed and am in the process of sending the phone back. The experience has left me very disappointed in Cingular as a whole.

The main difference between Telenav w/ Cingular and a stand alone GPS system is this:
Telenav w/ Cingular - You pay a monthly fee (and buy a seperate receiver) but you never have to worry about downloading updated maps, it's all updated for you. It's not locked into one phone either. If you switch SIM cards to another phone, you can use that one also (provided it's capable of the service).
Standalone GPS - You purchase the unit/maps and it's up to you to update the maps accordingly.
FYI: Telenav w/ Cingular only works in Cingular's service area. If you travel outside of the service area, you loose the GPS capability. If you lose signal, the GPS 'guesses' where your at by the speed/direction you were traveling when you lost it. When you pick up signal on your phone again, it'll re-adjust your location and calculate any changes that may be needed. Internationally you won't be able to use the serivce at all. (may work on laptops and blackberry internationally, but I'd have to check on it).
Sorry forgot to mention this... If you go to telenav's site, it suggests you will be able to use the service without a receiver. Here's the link.

Hw6925 Gps
My question wasn't very clear. I don't understand why Cingular disables the stand alone GPS capabilities on the HW6925, if you don't purchase the subscription to TeleNav. If I purchase the unlocked HW6945, the GPS will work with stand alone GPS Navigation software.
Since Cingular is disabling the stand alone GPS capabilities on this phone, it should be published that you will be required to purchase the subscription to TeleNav in order to use the GPS on the phone.
Every review I have read in regard to the HW6925 states you will have the option of using Microsoft Pocketstreets, HP's Navigation software, or TeleNav. However, that is not the case in regard to the HW6925. Cingular will disable the GPS, if you don't purchase the TeleNav option for a monthly fee of $5.99 or $9.99.
The website and box for the PDA states you will have these options, with no mention of the requirement for a subscription to TeleNav. It seems to me that the requirement for a subscription to TeleNav is a last minute change.
Thank you.

Hw6925 Ps
Advertising the HW6925 has built-in GPS and charging a fee to use it is equivalent to advertising the PDA has WiFi (802.11b) and requiring a data plan to use it. Personally, I don't need a data plan. I have WiFi at work, home, and a roaming plan through work (IPASS). I can get web access at any starbucks, airport, etc. I currently use my HX4700 at all these locations. I was hoping to get a single device to consolidate my cell phone, PDA, and GPS receiver. That is why I was willing to pay the $409.99 for the device.
By purchasing the PDA, I am purchasing the advertised hardware necessary for receiving GPS signals. Cingular is "locking" out the use of the GPS receiver. HP has assured me the unlocked HW6945 will work with 3rd party vendors for the Navigation software.
It is equivalent to advertising the phone has bluetooth communications, but disabling the file transfer function, so you have to purchase music downloads, ringtones, etc. from the carrier.
I would have preferred to know the GPS will be disabled up front, so I didn't waste my time with Cingular. Not one of the advertised websites for the HW6925 states a subscription to TeleNav will be required to use the built-in GPS (Cingular Premier, Microsoft, or HP). The HW6925 box states the phone comes with Microsoft Pocketstreets or other Navigation software may be purchased seperately. The box does not mention a subscription to TeleNav is required to use the built-in GPS.
Thank you.

I have checked the specs provided by Cingular and the phone DOES have GPS enabled. Do you subscribe to another GPS service? You don't get free GPS just because the phone enables it, or because you have a receiver. You DO NOT have to subscribe to telenav, but you do have to subscribe to something. No one is giving their GPS system access away for free.
It took a while for me to post a reply because I had to get my hands on a 6925. I tested it with two different GPS systems, one of which was telenav. Both of them worked fine.
The phone also has WiFi, which was disabled. Going through the settings (as was the case with the 8125 initially) enabled the WiFi and produced no connectivity issues. If your having problems I suggest you contact tech support.
