Exclamation HTC touch Internet Explorer fails to connect via GPRS

Hi friends,

My first post but well here is the situation:

1. I have the following applications installed.

a) Netfront web-browser
b) Fring - A composite messenger application used for Gtalk, MSN messenger, Yahoo, Twitter & many more; useful for chat & Voip calls from the Phone using GPRS / Wifi / any other Internet connection available on the phone.
c) Internet Explorer Mobile - Default web-browser installed as part of the Mobile phone Operating System.
d) Gmail mobile java Application

2. Phone successfully connects to my wifi router. No problems. All applications work fine. It has a built-in Wifi card.

3. Phone successfully connects via GPRS. I am on the BSNL network. My settings are fine as-
a) Netfront web-browser is able to pull webpages without problems.
b) Fring won't connect
c) Internet Explorer Mobile won't connect
d) Gmail mobile java Application also works without problems.
e) If connected via Internet Sharing - My PC is able to browse the Internet use Gtalk & Yahoo Messenger easily.

Now, the situation is typical- I cannot live without Internet Explorer because my Banking site won't let me login via any other webbrowser & sure Fring too has become a cannot live without type of option.

Now since IE & fring work flawlessly via Wifi, possible installation issues can be ruled out. It surely has some quirky setting which Netfront doesn't look for & overrides but IE cannot get a hang of it.

I have searched the Internet for possible solutions but all fail to address my issue. Suggested approaches fail to work are-

1. Hard reset & complete format of the phone from scratch.
2. Menu > Settings > connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks > My ISP (has been selected) which uses the Bsnl GPRS access point.
3. Menu > Settings > connections > Wifi > Network Adapters > My network Card connects to options 1. Work 2. The Internet. Both options selected & tested do not resolve the issue.
4. Internet Explorer mobile cache cleared. My phone has a stripped version of IE mobile that does not have the setting asking for connections to look for while connecting. This was suggested in many places but since I don't have the option, I am out of luck here.

It is probably some proxy setting which I think I may have missed. My knowledge is limited in this area, so suggestions are welcome. Maybe some registry setting in the mobile if edited should do the trick.

I think the post has become long enough but I would not like to have missed any issues lurking around which would be then suggested & I reply as not working.

Ravi.

Nope, so far no solutions found. Given up the HTC & now on a Nokia N73.

have you tried not using a gprs proxy?

I could not run gmail mobile over gprs, but could use gmail mobile over wifi.

after removing the 'use proxy' check on gprs it works fine.
(htc tytnII / vodafone /nl)
don't know if this works for you for this fring thing, but maybe it is worth a try

@baziel

Thank you for the concern but I have given up the HTC & so can't even test the problem I had, Maybe it was a ROM upgrade & some particular problem with that version of the firmware. Anyways
