Help. Want to save my text messages to SIM Card

Does anyone know how to save text messages on a LG1400? Cingular is sending me a new LG1400 since mine is malfunctioning, but I want to put my pictures and text messages on the new phone and would be crushed if I lost all of them. I get to use the same SIM Card and battery that I am using now in the new phone, will that allow me to keep my pictures and texts? If anyone knows anything about this or has some suggestions, please let me know.
