Question Pls. Help. How best to import contacts from "2G" digital SIM onto 3G USIM,

Hello,
Thanks for any knowledge you can impart about this problem.

I have worked out which way up to hold 3G phone, but if explaining helpful solutions, then please do not assume I know much more about this technology yet!

The problem is how best to move contacts (name & phone numbers )
from SIM-cards and old "2G"-digital phones
onto new USIM-cards and new 3G "LG U 8380" phones.

What I know so far is as follows:

Prior to selecting the LG U8380 phones, I was told that I could put the old (Motorola) 2G SIM-card into the new (LG U8380) 3G phone and copy the contacts onto the (LG U8380) 3G phone-memory.

BUT... The instruction book for (LG U8380) contains only dire warning of doom and destruction if 3G USIM is put into an old 2G phone.

Via GOOGLE I found links to two devices for copying contacts between SIM-cards.
One stated that it could NOT deal with 3G, only 2G,
the other stated it COULD copy from 2G SIM-cards onto 3G USIM-cards.

Does anyone know if the LG U8380 was designed to be able to copy contacts from a 2G SIM-card onto a 3G phone? Has anyone done it yet?

Thanks for reading this,
Regards
Richard J K B
