Question LG 8100 (MP3 as ringtone, latest OS) need help

I have a 8100 and need help getting past verizon's ways of not letting you play MP3's as ringtones.

This is how im seeing it:

I had a Samsung SCH-a950 with a memory card. It had 3 folders; MY_PIX, MY_FLIX, MY_MP3. The samsung had a sound feature where you could record something and use that as a ring tone... not what i was looking for.. i wanted MP3 as my ringtones...

So i exchanged that for a LG 8100. Basically the same phone... a little bit better Mem on the phone. Have the MiniSD. Came home with the intention of loading on my MP3's to the card and using it as a ringtone (CS rep said i could... hah...). Needless to say i cant use MP3s as ringtones. Checked out my folders; MY_PIX, MY_FLIX, MY_MP3, MY_SOUNDS. Funny thing is... unlike the samsung you cant play the MY_SOUNDS as ringtones (I tried changing the file extension to both .qcp and .mid). It will show up in the MY_SOUNDS, but wont let you assign them to anything as a ringer. The only option on the LG8100 for ringers is well... ringer (Menu -> -> 2 (sounds) 2 (call sounds) 1 (call ringtone)). I went to Verizon to see if i had the latest OS and i do... So i think (cause i have been reading these threads) in the older OS you could load on the MP3s and rename the file to either .mid or .qcp and stick that under MY_SOUNDS and have it assigned as a ringer...

So thats how verizon gets ya... They FORCE you into downloading their shit ringers for 1.99 a pop... retarded in my opinion.

ULTIMATELY (after that long explination) what my question is: How do i get around all this and have MP3's as my ringtones?

Thx VERY MUCH in advance!

I second that... having the same problem with Verizon's retarded system. It's so underhanded to force us to buy their ringtones... like they don't get enough money from me buying their phone, plan, and features, plus any games I ever want to hear.

I'm also having the problem that every time I put my min SD card in, it creates new folders on the card so it won't read the old folders with the data in it... so frustrating.

uhhh

the only thing that i can say is that if you shouldnt be looking for just that tiny feature in the phone, i'm sure you can live without it, the LG 8100 is one of the best phones on the market right now, and i'm loving it too.

I would beg to differ with you on the LGVX8100. The LG VX8100 can and will
play MP3 as music and as Ringtones. Using Bitpim you can add the MP3s to
the phone as ringtones. As far as adding full songs to the telephone I just
download the mps to the mini sd using a card reader and you add them under
the MY_MP3s.

To activate the MP3 Player you need to go inot the service menu. To access
the service menu hit the OK buttom then 0 The code is 000000 then go to 11
(Music Settings) and enable MP3 player. Play the MPs from the front butons
just enable the short cut keys in the regular menu.

I have not figured out the filename length. too long and you cannot see the mp3 but if you make it shorter then it will show up.

Are you a salesman for the lg8100? Because that is what some salesman told me when I wanted to do something with my phone that he said couldn't be done with it.
What is small to you may not be to others.
